Here is a more affordable Cone and balls still left over from the John Blake merchandise.
https://tricksupply.com/product/ball-cone-plus-john-blake/ I don't have this but it looks worth looking into, when they are gone, no more will be available, as John Blake passed away a few years ago, and Trick Supply took his existing stock. John Blake also supplies a Salt Shaker, and his DVD instructions. If you remember Dai Vernon ended with a Salt Shaker to transition to the Long Salt Pour in his Harlequin Act. The John Blake Cone is not leather and not flexible. It is a painted paper product. The paint job is mediocre at best. It is full of runs, dust particles and some air bubbles. It is very stiff and limited in doing some of the moves that a flexible leather cone will allow. It's best use is as a protective support for your leather cone. The balls aren't much better. The paint job shows dust particles and debris and has the hole where the nail or screw eye was used to hang the balls for painting.
You do get a "gimmick" to vanish salt (provide your own salt shaker/cellar and salt) but you don't need it. Simply use a large TT. The DVD is very basic. In the performance section John appears to have to have to think about his next move and actually backs up a couple of times. You get the feeling that he doesn't perform this routine all that regularly. The teaching part is generally adequate. The "move" is not well taught nor clearly shown on the DVD. There is enough given to tease out what you need to do to accomplish the routine. Anyone that has played with or read a version of the Ball, Cone, and Handkerchief probably doesn't need the explanation part of the DVD anyway. Watch the routine on YouTube and you know what is being done and when. The routine has potential and could be entertaining. Honestly I'd spend just a little more and get a better set including a leather cone. Check out the set made by Frank at the "Ambitious Card". Real leather, real snooker balls (but no instructions or DVD). http://www.theambitiouscard.com/category......le=Cones So for under $30.00 you get a leather cone and better balls. This is a much better buy. Or go all in and get George Millward's set at $140.00. The real value of George's set is the printed and DVD instructions to his routine.

Thanks Harry, I did not know there was a demo of the late John Blake's Ball & Cone product.
So here is the video demo. I enjoyed it, there was some ideas in his handling worth considering, and making note of. Now that we seen the "The Professor" present it, we know the pacing and rhythm of how it should be presented. |

Senor Mardo used (and published his routine) a party horn in his Ball and Cone routine.

Johnny Brown (great Texas magician from a few decades ago) used a paper cone. Actually he used one of those cones that very large spools of twine or thread are wound on for commercial use. He painted his green ( I painted mine gold). His routine was pretty much the Mardo routine.
