I got a chance to try out Jay's Table today. I have used tables similar tables to this for close to a decade. It's the nicest table of this type I've ever worked on. I will purchase one when he decides to sell them(Jay- see I said when not if ). I will take a deep breath and ask how much. This thing is classy but tough! Jay's a good friend but I may need you guys to help me get him to make some for us . Come on Jay , put some of these out there for us. I really like the table I have now that is made by a member of Café which is designed for the street. I believe Jay's new table will be tough enough for the street and looks classy enough to use for upscale close up shows.
God's grace rocks! It makes a good cups and balls routine look pretty boring in comparison.

Now I have to see how many people might be interested. Do a lot of people have a need for this?

Jay, can you help me identify this table? It folds up very flat similar to your folding chair you showed me a while back. Rick

I believe the original design was the G&M Nightclub table, (Could be wrong) but that appears to be a one of a kind.
Since you have it, Does it look mass produced or not? - - - Now I want to make tables. Lots of different tables. I have a unique design I've been using for the last 12 years that would is great for party people. It has a space for a rabbit cage.

Hard to tell if mass produced or not. Will bring it by the shop some time. You may find the way it folds useful. Take a look at picture. Folds to approx 18" x 24" x 3"

Yes, I agree that looks like a G&M Table advertised in the 1970's. Tannen made/sold a model similar to this that folded up, theirs had an edge around the top to act like a manipulators box or for things not rolling off. It was a standard in their catalogs.
You should clean it up and use it, not many tables like this around. It is more useful then most on the market. |

The 70's looks about right. The little coat of arms logo has T.W. on it. Not sure if it was made by the manufacture of added by the user. Tommy Wonder perhaps?

You are joking, right?
That's a Tannen's table.

I just don't see Tommy Wonder performing in front of one of those tables. I had a G-M table for a while. It was UUUUUUGGGLY!
I got some bar top material and used it to cover the masonite front and sides, added some chrome striping and polished aluminum trim, and got it looking at least semi-professional. The best thing that happened to it was that it was in the back of my station wagon during a flood, and it got warped out of shape. After that, I built my own tables. Jay, your table looks very nice. To all of you who buy "tables of expedience," go to a magic shop or some other place that actually has the tables for sale, set them up and look at them as if they were your stage setting. Even if you don't perform on stage, you want a table that doesn't detract from your act. These tables that are on folding drum and cymbal stands look like they were made from Erector set parts. Would you furnish your house with something that looks like that?

Something to also consider is how stable will the table be if the surface is not flat (eg you are performing on a hill)
|

If you are performing on a hill, you need to make a base that will give you a level surface to perform on. If you are performing on a raked stage, that's a different story completely.
If you are performing on a slightly irregular surface, a tripod will be more forgiving than a four-legged table base. A P&L base or a Viking base is good on a slightly irregular surface as well as a flat one. But make sure that your table base looks good. Is there anyone out there who really thinks a Eureka base is attractive? I don't mean "tolerable." I mean actually attractive. The same thing is true, I think, for tables that are made on bent metal tray stands. To me, they appear to be kludged together. The less like plumbing and erector sets our stage furniture looks, the better.
