Especially for those who do it for a living, professionally or semi-professionally.
Your feelings and experiences from it. How it has changed your life.

Feelings? It's great! Experiences? I'll write a book later.
How it changed my life? Gave me freedom. From what you say? Dress codes. Shaving. Bosses that don't directly pay me. Schedules. Unreasonable demands. Traffic. Paperwork.(counting money excluded) Worry. Needing BIG Game day off. Timed lunches. Meetings. Confined spaces. Building air. Fluorescent lighting. Work politics. Harassment suites, sexual or otherwise. Getting that look when I come in looking like I was hammered all night cause let's face it...I was hammered all night. Electronic leashes.(cell phones, PDAs, etc.) Having to get my genius approved by a network of simpletons. Beating the bushes.(not that bush!) Cold calls. Sucking up. And many many more. Heading out and spreading Happy is the best I tells ya, the best.
You know why don't act naive.

OK, here is a quick list.
That's a first blush list. I love my job and wouldn't trade it for any other one in the world! But I would like to win the lottery.

It's taking people's mind off of whatever is bothering them. I sort of got into magic around the time that my dog (had him for 13 years) died, so I try to make people feel good and believe that miracles really can happen.

It gives me the chance to focus my time on the things I really enjoy. My job used to be horrid, and my recreation would be spent in part practicing magic. Now my job is performing. I have more time to really get into the intricacies of the craft and appreciate it more.

Appreciation of magic in all of its forms is a lens to undestanding how people think and make decisions. My experience with performance magic has allowed me to assist thousands of people in overcoming imagined barriers in their lives. Magic allows for creativity like no other endeavor.

For me, magic has given me opportunity to really LIVE my life, to be who I am.

For me, magic/mentalism, when done well(!), is all about re-creating the childhood fantasy, wonder and amazement in other adults that they lose through their real-life experiences.

Magic gives me the opportunity to thumb my nose at the 9 to 5 world.
I do not hate my job. I do not hate my boss. I can have it all my way. I make people happy, get thanked, fed, and paid handsomly for doing what I love. I am also a juggler, and a comic which gives me the opportunity to laugh at magicians.

I didn't think anybody actually read posts made at "food for Thought". I used to be an electrical engineer who hated his boring life.

Gee I think the biggest thing magic means to me is that I'm actually entertaining people. I've had thousands of people just focused on me in a positive way for a moment in their lives.

Today I went to St Christopher's childrens hospital to make some bald headed kids, and their parents laugh.
What a rush
