Okay, I know there are about (or so I've heard) about 200 different variations on OOTW card trick, but this one I saw last night has me baffled.
The magi calls 2 spectators over..the magi ribbon spreads the deck (only about 40 cards actually) faces down....he has each spectator take one card from the top and the spectator has a choice of putting the card (without looking at the faces, either on their own little pile or the magis pile alternating from one spectator to the other... At the end of the effect the magi spreads his pile face up and they are all different, red and black, each spectator spreads their pile face up and one spectator has all red and the other all blacks.... it seemed like a very impromptu version of OOTW, I do an OOTW version that is similar where I look at the faces, spectator does not and they tell me red or black and I put it on the correct place, where they tell me. Any thoughts ideas or private PM's? |

The version you're doing is U.F. Grant's. The version you saw is John Kennedy's.

I've done a genuinely shuffled deck version of OOTW with someone who's under post-hypnotic suggestion. Now THAT comes across as a real miracle.

I suspect he just does what you do, but with a label added.

Kudos however for the presentation idea. Magic can be a VERY strong adjunct to a hypnosis act provided the effect is strong and "feels" like suggestion. I use either Ben Harris's Crossroads or Silent Running Dissolving Card effect. I wouldn't do OOTW in a hypnosis show however because it is really too long. You need to grab the audience quickly. That being said, I really like the presentational angle. Ahimsa, Vlad |

Hey Panlives,
I'm not Vlad, but I can still answer your question. You can find two Harry Lorayne methods in his book "The Classic Collection Volume 1." Well worth the investment for not only these two great effects, but countless others as well. It's a purchase I've never regretted. Hope this helps. Give me a shout if you end up buying the book. |
