Hey guys, done my first gig today. Went well.
Ok so I had a wedding gig today. Was crapping myself all day about what tricks to take, and pocket management, and went with less tricks (didn't take chop cup). I took with me a pack of cards and sharpie, sponge balls, invisible deck, TT and hankey and a folding coin. I will say that the invisible deck is the best ever, not only is it an amazing effect, but also works as an "out". I did get heckled once and by a difficult spectator, and the invisible deck got me out of it. I learnt a lot of things. I learnt if you shake peoples hand and really get to know them, then they will be on your side. Sometime I would let people "in" on the secret and give them a friendly nudge with the shoulder, even though it was a false explanation, it worked really well at getting people to like you. I'm so please at how the gig went, I had like a few "fans" following me around lol. I learnt that trick that have more "interaction" have better reactions. (Sponge balls got better response than "biting a coin in half." Excuse the spelling, I've had a few drinks tonight, but ya am so happy got a huge confidence boost, had nothing but compliments all night. And before I was crapping myself that I was going to bomb. So just thought I would let you know how it went, and thank everyone for your support. Respect! |

Awesome! Sounds like you had a really good time. Better be careful, though. It can be habit forming!
Way to go!

One strange thing I noticed, was when I asked people to draw a picture of their "pet" on a card (for ABCR).
The most common drawing was a pig? I've never met anyone with a pet pig? I was expecting dog or cat to be the most common, lol. The biggest lesson I learnt was the hardest part is starting, but once you get going it gets easy. And just smile, joke and have fun. |

This is fabulous. Nothing like having that first show done. The next one will be easier. As @DWRackley says, it is habit forming. And addictive.

Excellent, well done! Really nice to hear, I think, this is when we really learn magic - when we perform it to live people. Thanks for sharing!

That sounds like a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to the first time I get to do a real gig, not just random stranger walk ups, etc. I don't feel fluid with my routine and handling on some of my stuff yet. Someday.
Awesome, thanks for sharing Owen. Gives hope |

So I took a guess and got it wrong, I said "So what card was it?" when she told me what it was, then I took out my invisable deck routine and blew her mind lol. She wasnt nasty , she was just abit drunk and having a laugh. |

Excellent!
Sounds like you handled yourself like a real pro. Sometimes “stuff” happens, and you dealt with it and kept on going. Great work!
