Doc,
Don't remember if I ever told you this or not, but Gene lived only 15 minutes from me the last 3 years of his life. We sessioned several times together over those 3 years. He was a great guy and I really enjoyed his company and his card magic. Jason

It's a crime that a man with so much skill is a relative unknown, I only heard of him after watching Jason's 1-on-1's on the bottom deal.
High or low quality video I'm pretty sure you'd see nothing! |

I'm glad that you had the privilege to session with him because now you've experienced the same feeling that I experienced when I sessioned with him as my teacher. To The Readers I am in no way trying to discredit my teachers ability by posting some of his faults. You have to realize that most of the moves that was learned back in the day (before the Internet), we learned from books and we had to imagine how the move looked before proceeding to practice. Today you don't have that problem, you don't have to learn from your mistakes and relearn all over again, all you have to do is purchase/download a video or get on the internet, google second dealing and analyze everyone's deal, critique the one's you like and start practicing and in no time flat you're going to be better than us; this is exactly what Michael Jordan did when analyzing Julius Erving's video footages. I guess what I'm saying is how can I compete with the young and up coming stars of today like Mr. Z. Andrew W, Jason E, Paul W. Damian N. Jeff W. Igor aka Mr. Pink, Denis Behr, Antonio Z, AMcD and the list goes on and on when I don't have the enthusiasm to keep striving and practicing like I used to. What if I meet one of these guys in my travels and with all this knowledge that I have I can't muster up the ability to back up my words that I'm preaching here at this site? Imagine how embarrassing that would be. Talk is cheap where I live, we have to put-up or shut-up and now that I have become disenchanted with learning a thousand moves in order to prove my legitimacy as a top cheat, I guess I'll have to pass the torch on to someone else. Julius Erving had to step to the side, Michael Jordan had to step to the side and now so do I. I guess my retiring slogan to the rest of you wanna-be's who DON'T WANT TO PRACTICE is "Don't get it twisted about my ability because I'm getting old, I'm still the raining champ in cold decking and I still have an archive full of still never-before-seen moves that I can practice if necessary in order to rob you, I'm just too tired to practice and learn them all especially when I have no use for them. I guess I'll be selling my two card trimmers & my corner rounder right along with my arm hold-out soon, be looking for it on eBay in the near future. Take care, Respectfully, Doc |

In English? Well, a few methods described, but very little people knew (in France) how to get the book, nor even the exact title of the books! Then you have to figure out by yourself. OK, once in a while you meet someone who knows, but advice given was like "you take the deck, push here and deal, see you". They learned it the hard way, so we were supposed to be educated the same way. Today, you have cameras, affordable books, videos. And many guys sharing their moves. Just slow down the video and you can learn in one month what took 8 or 10 to us in the past. |
