Tell us something cool about your grandmother.

Everything about my grandmother was cool. 2nd generation Norwegian immigrant in a house where they spoke the language and still ate lutefisk. Career waitress back when waitresses had class. She was the most even tempered person you could ever meet.
I only ever heard her yell twice. Once was when I accidentally set off a fire extinguisher in her car, and the other was when I did something to the water dispenser in the fridge.
She left the yelling and cussing to my grandpa.

Yesterday was tough. My Mom was as I expected so I had to hang tough and calm to help her with the arrangements and staying focused and stuff.

One good thing is that Grandma was still lucid and functional right up to the end. Just about a month ago she was still driving herself to goodwill and cruising around on the 'rascal' there. She didn't have to spend the last 2 years helpless in a bed like my Grandpa did. The biggest letdown was the whole not knowing that the last time I saw my Grandma would be the last time I saw my Grandma.

I am so sorry, Critter.

Sorry to hear Critter. I know what you are going through. My dad was Diabetic since he was a young man. Then he was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. Then last year he was given test and found out he needed a triple bipass. To top it off 2 days in ICU he has a cardiac arrest and we lost him at 71 yrs of age.

The best thing I could tell you is that to keep doing what your doing. don't break stride and break down. Stay strong for you and others. If you need to cry do so. Somtimes showing some weakness is a sign of strength. My prayers go out to you and your fam.

So sorry to hear that Critter.

To everyone else, thanks for the kind words, I did not mean to take away from Critter's grandmother though.

Once again Critter, my thoughts are with you.

What's lutefisk?

(I mean, sure, I could look it up. But Wikipedia wouldn't tell me anything about your grandma.)

Appreciate the support.
Funeral is Friday.
Grandma's name was Norma Jean so I decided we should play the original Candle in the Wind song from Elton John.
She was born in 1935 so nobody stole it from Monroe Smile

Oh, missed the Lutefisk post.
Lutefisk is where they take some whitefish and soak it in water, then caustic chemicals, then water, until it becomes fish Jell-O.
It must be eaten hot and usually is topped with mustard or melted butter. It was a method of food preservation that became a national dish.
I like it. Many people hate it. Many Norwegians believe that eating it once a year will prolong your life.

OK now I know you've been telling stories. There's no way that you could be in Germany and not know what Lutefisk is. Even though it's the National dish of Norway you should at least be able to smell in in Deutschland. So where are you really?

My ex took my four year old son to the viewing today. My Mom was there and she said he did real good. He brought flowers and tissue for my Mom. I wouldn't have brought him, but I'm glad he didn't freak out.

So that's what I'm smelling? I thought it was the brothel down the street.

Both you and your grandmother, Norma Jean are in my prayers.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.

Having opened up like this to us, I am sure you loved her very much.

While we can all share in your sorrow, only you can have the wondeful memories you have and will continue to have of Norma Jean.
If I were to agree with you. Then we would both be wrong. As of Apr 5, 2015 10:26 pm I have 880 posts. Used to have over 1,000
