Hello everyone,
I will have a show for my patients (I'm a doctor myself). They are mostly old age, about 60 y/o or more than 60. What should I know when perform to them? I think I should do some easy-to-understand tricks. Can you give me some advices? Thank you very much. YuYen

Being older does not make them instantly stupid. They are people. Treat them like people.

Maybe ease up on the pick-a-card tricks where they have to remember a card. (Speaking as someone approaching that hill.)

Unless there is more to it, patients with special needs, bad eyesight or hearing, limited mobility, or something like that.

I'm 65 years old, and I can't see, hear, or understand anything, in fact I'm falling asleep as I answer you, so my best advise to you is give up on them old fogies. It is my nap time now, so don't even try to answer me.

Er...I'm almost 70 and still perform for everyone. 60 is way young now a days! Just do your act!

I think the best advice was already given, just do your act. I'm 65 and I workout with guys who are between 70 and 85. I'm sort of at the point now where someone pushing 90 might be a little old.

This has to be the funniest thread I have ever read, but a doctor should know the limitations of his patients.
Are you really a doctor or do you just play one on TV?

Hi Al,
First, I'm really a doctor. I'm sorry that I didn't give the detailed informations in my first post. I'm now serving in one of the clinic located in the deep mountain and I would like to entertain my patients with magic. Because of the location, they didn't go to school and they cannot even speak good Chinese but just their native language. Therefore it'll be a little bit difficult to me just do my act because maybe they will not understand well. And yes, because they are my patients, some of them cannot walk well or hear well, so I have to adjust my speaking speed or carefully choose my material, that's why I post this question here to ask for some tips. Thank you for all the advices above. I'll just do my act and do some modifications. I really appreciate it. Best, YuYen

Back to your original post, YuYen. I agree that the tricks should have simple plots and they should be easy to see. Despite what some of the jokers around here have been saying, your patients will not all have good eyesight and some will have trouble moving their heads, so they can't follow intricate and long movements. Dove productions will work better than thimbles, I suspect (if you are allowed to bring in doves. And I wouldn't be as confident of the cups and balls, as I would be with a silk fountain.
