or Scissors used for Rope, the good ones, not just the heavy sewing shears...does anyone have a source for these? I do not like to stand there hacking the ropes with "regular" scissors.
Please let me know where to find these incredible things! Thanks
Kay and Tory

Go to fabric shops, they have very sharp scissors for fabric work.
Good luck Kevin |

In my Mongolian Pop-Knot routine, which I have used for more than thirty years, I have always used tin snips available at any hardware store. They will cut through anything, and their rounded tip will not put a hole in the bottom of your hip pocket.

I saw Pat Page using something similar to what you mentioned, Whit.

I use a pair of pet toenail trimming shears. They are quite sharp and the rounded blades trap the rope nicely. The tips are also very blunt allowing me to pocket them without fear.

Hi:
Follow Whit's advice - I did. The tin snips work very well; they cut through rope so easily. Ron |

Greetings and Salutations,
I'll have to add my vote for Whit's method. I thought his advice was crazy, but he seemed sincere. With coupon in hand, I picked up a few things I needed at the hardware store and got a pair of tin snips for free ... and they've been with me since. They work great! Another option: I was at Walmart this weekend, and they sell a heavy-duty scissors/snips made by Rubbermade. Cost is about $7.00, and they cut through rope very easily. They look good too; they have a blue, rubber coated handle.

I paid about $15 for a good set of "fiskers" sewing scissors. They have orange handles, look like those cheap scissors, but they cut magicians rope great. I use an audience member to cut a piece and it was a real bummer when they stood there "gnawing" at the rope.

Yet another option I've seen used [by Joe Bruno in Maryland] are surgical shears. They cut through any rope with a single clip like Mr. Haydn's tin snips (they also have rounded tips), but they have a unique look.
The guy I knew who used them said he got them at a medical/surgical supply dealer. They're probably not cheap, but they last forever (well, almost). Tim |

I use tree branch pruning shears to great effect.

I think you could get a lot of comedy out of the No Cut scissors... followed up with a pair of garden pruning clippers with the three foot long handles.

Tin snips...
Not strange at all. Go to a large hardware store (with a piece of magician's rope) and ask the sales dude to show you some and tell him you need a pair to cut this (show him the rope) and "can I test your various snips?" They are heavy duty scissors for cutting through sheet metal.

Thank you, Pete.
Those barrier languages get in the way but there is always someone to put them down. I was pleased to see you "live at FISM", in the Fred Kaps lecture. Thank you again.

I had not noted you're from Lisbon...and now I see why the reference didn't make sense to you.
Hope you find what you are looking for. We have huge hardware stores here, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. Bigger than a soccer field. We had a great time putting the Kaps talk together and more is coming...See: http://www.fredkaps.com
