A good friend of mine and I are going to New Orleans in a few months and we need to know where to eat. What are the best places in and around the french quarter? Any magicians in the area?

I second Acme Oyster House. Get the grilled garlic oysters. You'll pass them on the way in. Then get a fried oyster po' boy.
Central Grocery for a Muffaletta. Café du Monde for Beignets.

This is great, the suggestions so far gives me a list to check up on. I appreciate all of your responses and welcome for anyone else to chime in. I guess maybe I will give oysters a try, maybe... Never ate them before regardless of preparation method.

I was born and raised in the big E-Z. Hands down the two best restaurants in the city are the Court of Two Sisters and the Palace Café. Of the two the Palace Café is the better but that is like comparing a supermodel who is a 10 to one who is a 9.9999999.
The Palace Café is on the corner of Canal and Chartres. It is between Chartres and Royal. Court of Two Sisters is on Royal about six blocks in from the Palace Café. The Acme Oyster House is great but if you can't get in there then go to the Pearl Restaurant and Oyster Bar. The Pearl is located on the opposite of Canal as the Palace Café. Once Royal crosses Canal it becomes St. Charles Ave. and the Pearl is actually on St. Charles, a block off Canal. It is just as great as Acme and not as expensive. Antoine's Annex on St. Louis is really good. If you want Cajun and Creole there is Oliver's on Decatur about a block in from Canal. Pretty much anywhere in the French Quarter is good. Morton's Steak House is a good choice if you want steak. But by all means, a trip to the Big EZ is not complete without dinner at the Palace Café. When I was living in New Orleans, that is where I took everyone who came into town to visit. The White Chocolate Bread Pudding contains all 7 deadly sins. AND, anything you like, they will give you the recipe. As for magicians, contact the New Orleans SAM and IBM chapters.
Peace

There has to be a Burger King somewhere near there.
