Hey, I just found out that Cas Boxley is in one of the branches of my incredibly warped family tree. The fact that he existed and toured around with his wife as "Boxley and Marie" and his magic show "Mystorama" is pretty much the sum total of my knowledge. Google hasn't yielded much yet, and I'm traveling and don't have access to a lot of physical resources. Any info, leads, sources, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You won't find much on Google. However, if you are a member of the IBM, you can access the back issues of the Linking Ring on the Conjuring Arts web site, and there you will find a number of references to him -- Caswell Boxley.

Thanks Bill! I am not currently a member, but I now have a good reason to join.

I'd copy some of the references, but there are literally hundreds of them. I really wouldn't know where to start. He was very active in California, though.

I am probably wrong about this, but you might want to talk with Pete Biro.

I knew him well. He made one of my really nifty tables. He featured the broomstick levitation with Marie. I booked him to appear on a TV Special along with Slydini, many years ago in San Francisco. I wish I could remember more, but it was over 50 years ago. Maybe Byron Walker can add to it.

My name is Stephen Butler, and I grew up with "Uncle" Cas and "Aunt" Marie living on the third floor (top floor)of our apartment house. The house was located at 1817 5th Avenue, in Oakland California. Cas also rented a rather large shed in the back yard, in which he built his own props and also built props for others. I knew Cas and Marie from the time I was 5 until I left high school and joined the military, attended many of their shows and was on constant call to be of any help with his projects. They were great people, and Cas taught me just about everything I know about wood working and finishes. Regretfully I do not have any pictures of them. A great couple and one that I still think of and remember well. Stephen Butler, Nairobi, Kenya

If you happen to have a picture of Cas and/or Marie, I would sure appreciate a scan. Take care. |

Check with the OMC in Oakland. Check with James Hamilton and Phil Temple. I saw Cas at a one day convention and they asked him to perform on the evening show, he had nothing with him but boy, did he do magic. He's someone that needs to be remembered.
