Hi all, I am doing magic at my brothers wedding, and have a small problem. I am having to wear a waistcost and tails, so therefore have no outside pockets on the jacket. so I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to perform with tails and waistcoat. any comments would be great.

It all depends on what you know how to do.
I assume you will be table hopping and not doing a stand-up show. All I would use is some coins for various routines and a deck of cards. All you are losing is two pockets. You still have four pockets of in pants and at least one inner and outer breast pocket. Plenty of room for packet tricks, sponge balls, coins, cards, business cards, etc. Just don't bring "propy" stuff. By "propy" stuff I mean things like Tenyo items.
I am getting so tired of slitting the throats of people who say that I am a violent psychopath.

When you say a Waistcoat and Tails I am assuming, being a wedding, that you mean a Morning Suit. A Morning Suit almost always usually has two spacious inside breast pockets to make up for the lack of outside pockets. An Evening Tailcoat will usually have them too, just in case that is what you meant.
Then the Waistcoat will have two waistcoat pockets on each side. So you'll actually have more pockets to use than you would normally have on a Lounge Suit or a two-piece Dinner Suit (or tuxedo as I think the Americans call it). |

A 'Dinner Suit' is in fact called a tuxedo in the U.S. I have all manner of full formal wear (suits and tuxedos) that I use all the time, and they all have plenty of pockets. Those that do not have outside pockets do, in fact, have two (a few have four) spacious inside pockets to make up for it, as VE Day pointed out. If not, you could always have pocket organizers installed in them. I hope this information is useful to you. |
