As a quick fix for a small bore blocked oil pipe, thought I'd be smart, inflate a 260, and use the expelled air to clear it. Didn't stretch it as I normally would , and it burst . Clearly, a bit if it whanged my eyeball, causing a modicum of pain, and extreme eye watering.
No driving for me today... Fortunately, this happened at home, rather than in the middle of a gig. So - take heed! I'm now wearing an eyepatch.... I normally mouth inflate about 90% of my balloons, only bringing the electric pump into play for amusement purposes. I'm assuming this burst because I neglected to give it a good stretch? Only been doing balloons for a few years, and this is the first time I've had an incident/accident. Just a comment about what CAN happen... DCB

There is a simple solution - wear glasses. I have had a balloon snap back and hit the glasses, but never my eye-ball. Hopefully see you in Kerry next week. Tony

One time I was inflating a balloon with my mini Mac pump and the balloon popped next to my ear. I couldn't hear well for a day. That was in Nov last year. Everyday still my hearing is a bit muffled. But once I yawn it's back to normal. Has this happened to anyone else besides me?

When I was a child someone at school found it funny to pop a ballon right next to my ears.... Got about the same result.

It happened again yesterday, on site... Wasn't anywhere near as bad as the first one - but - it's got me thinking...

I had a clown tell me that's why he has the big glasses, I got it in the eye once, I made up new words it hurt so bad. I never mouth inflate at gigs, but when just jamming I will. but just thinking about it hurts!

Typically I find balloons burst like this more because they are old and have gone off. To limit the chance of this happening use new balloons.

Most of us inflate rounds, hearts, and Geos which can pop you in the face. If you cup your hands in front of you, you can protect your eyes.

Watch out for the hearts; they definitely burst with the most impact.

Ever had the Betallatex metallic balloon pop on you? Pieces go everywhere.

I always wear glasses, but last year one popped in my eye anyway - it just kind of went over and around my glasses. Maybe I was bent over a bit. Never had that happen before with 15 years doing it. It hurt very badly, I thought I might have to go to the ER at first, but I got by and just had eye pain for a few days.
