The director of our children's ministries at our church has asked me to entertain their Sunday school group of elementary ages. That's great. Then she asked if I could develop a show around the week's lesson, Genesis 15: 5-6 and 21: 1-7 (Isaac is born). Oh ...
My first idea is that since Abraham was 100 years old when Isaac was born, so maybe I could develop something around things aren't always as we see them, or to expect the unexpected. Lame? I've gotten the most helpful advice on the Café when I asked people to brainstorm ideas and generate some crow-sourced creativity. What you got for this one? |

If you did something to an impossible location (old maid card to lemon...to shoe, etc.)...and then talk about how God did something even after Sarah became pregnant and had a baby even after she was way too old to have one. But ours is a God of everything...including what we may think is impossible.

Great. I was planning to do bill to lemon. That would work out great. Can't believe with all this discussion, no one else has ideas for this verse.

It's a bit of a tricky scripture to work an effect for, I'm not much help either, sorry! Perhaps a flower box production from an empty bag (not sure the proper name of this trick), since Sarah is long barren, but God can perform the impossible. |

That's actually fabulous, since I have one of those productions bags. Just recently rebuilt the flowers using plans I bought from Prof. Spellbinder's site, so now they actually look like real flowers. I had planned on doing that but wasn't sure how it would work -- until now. This is valuable advice. Funny, I didn't list the effects I'd planned on doing, because I wanted to see what the forum would come up with, figuring I could adapt to what I had. But so far you all are right on the money (yes, I also work with money, especially coins).

That effect is actually on my wish list - it's a long list, since I'm pretty new at this, but I am constantly shopping for effects that could have multiple applications. Let us know how it goes! |

Nick, thanks for the encouragement. Hey, if you go to the Magic Nook and by the .pdf on spring flowers for $5, they teach you how to make the production boxes and bags, and they look a lot more realistic than what you'd buy. It takes some flowers from the dollar store, some pieces of plastic and some rubber cement. It's really pretty easy.
I will report back. It's this Sunday. |

Well, I'm getting spoiled. Did my first all-kids' show for the Sunday school class (and a few adult teachers) and it killed. I didn't do the whole show on the Genesis lesson, but I took the helpful advice of the Café and did my final two effects around the lesson (the flower productions and bill inside lemon. The later I used the method of our fearless leader Steve Brooks, who generously posted it on his section of the Café.). They laughed and were very entertained and very well behaved. As I said, I'm getting spoiled. I'm sure karma will come back on me very soon and I'll get a terrible audience. But I left church today feeling so energized after a show gone well, and rewarded with smiles and laughter. Thanks for all the great ideas and help. You all rock. God bless.
