It has a broad end like a highliter tip on one end, and a fine tip end on the other. The fine tip end is nice for doing small detail blockout work. The best marked deck out there, for me, is Fournier marked deck. Really Invisible for spectators... SUPER INCREDIBLE AND EASILY visible for the magician.
And I am not part of Fournier Co., but I really think this is far the best marked deck. All the best magic, Pablo Tejero

One thing I've done is to use cards from a marked deck in packet routines, you can add a real kicker at the end by adding a reveal that draws on the marking. Combined with the rest of the routine it can be very effective.

"The Envelope Please" is worth a lokk see if you want a deck that will not arouse suspicion. You need a lot of boldness to use this deck of cards.

Now I have purchased several marked decks, including Bob Farmer's Farmarx system, as well as the excellent Marked for Life book.
So far the one I like best is Ted Lesley's Working Performer's Deck. A good place to look for affordable marked decks is eBay. (Never play poker with someone who buys their decks on eBay.) |

The best marked deck I have seen is Ted Lesley's Marked deck. It works(basically) only on Bikes. You can buy the deck premade(that means expensive) or a heck of a lot cheaper, and make it yourself. I use the cheaper version. Not that dificult to make, I make mine. Great marked deck!

Ted lesley's marked deck is great...but, most of the marked decks discussed here must be read close up or like me...may have to put on your reading glasses (which looks strange if you are not reading )
So, I personally use one of the SHADE variations (Luminous, JUICE, FLASH or Tintwork) which can be read from greater distances and I don't need my reading glasses to see the marks.... Try: http://markedcards.bizhosting.com/Marked_cards.htm Have fun !

Obviously if your sight isn't, well... it might be hard to read the markings. Though I have to stop the spectator as they remove the selected card, and point to it (allowing myself to concentrate on the card for about 2 seconds) and say "are you sure that is the card you want?" I have seen magicians that are able to just have a card selected, and as the spectator removes the card, they can read it. That is magic in itself. If you don't have a sight problem... the Ted Lesley's is great.

This is a bit of an update on a very old thread:
I think it is worth looking into The Code by Andy Nyman. With it comes a superb marked deck that is very similar to a bicycle style deck and his DVD has some really nice routine ideas. I personally use a system that is similar to Andy's system, but using self-marked bicycle decks and my own stack. In the possibly never ending debate between bought marked decks and self marked decks, one must consider that there are as many ways of marking decks as there are decks. My system is quite subtle and VERY difficult for anyone to find, even if they are looking for it. However, when I get older, I might want to switch to a commercially marked deck. they tend to be a bit more bold. If I were to choose a commercially marked deck, I would go with Andy's "The Code" deck. BTW, his deck and system also uses the Tamariz stack, which takes it to a whole new level. KJ |

Wow what a AWESOME Topic. I have a few Marked Decks, and I'll list them with ratings and why. I too got "Marked For Life", and another book I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned that has a GREAT Chapter on Marked Decks, and that is Simon Lovell's "Cheating At Everything". Those two books especially the first one are MUST HAVES for any Card Magician. My List ...
1)Ultimate Marked Deck (U.M.D.) - Is by far one of the TOP Marked Decks on the planet. You see IMHO *Darwin Ortiz is "The Man", and the "Top Expert" when it comes to all things Cards. When he speaks I LISTEN. Of course there is *Forte, Swain, England, Wilson, Lovell, Wimhurst, Nash, ... etc. and of course the GREAT *Richard Turner. Anyway Darwin HIGHLY Endorsed this deck as well as Bloom. It's true a marked deck should be good enough that just a split second glance is all you need YET the marks are invisible to the Spectator. Rates a (9). 2)Boris Wild Deck - Though I respect this guy a lot and like his Magic, I really think this Deck is way over rated. At least to me it takes me a moment to see the marks on this deck. Rates a (5). 3)Dream Deck - While this deck is "Okay" it's awfully suspicious to have that thing you need to read the marks. Rates a (5). 4)S.U.M. Deck With Phoenix Cards - Besides the U.M.D. this has got to be a TOP FAVORITE Marked Deck that I own. Though I just got it a couple months ago, you CANNOT go wrong getting this Deck. (I did have the First S.U.M. Hoyle Deck too). I LOVE this principle of the Marked / Stacked method. I love that you do not even have to look at the back of the card to know what it is. I DO highly suggest you are proficient with a good false shuffle / cutting sequence. I have never been good at the Zarrow as if you know what to look for I lift from behind. Actually I think that was taught to me by Bill Malone on a I.M.S. Tape. I also do it under ONE Card only. As I mostly "Street Busk" and I have people looking down I'll use this shuffle ONLY do to that reason, or when doing Triumph. No IMHO the VERY BEST of ALL False Shuffles is the "Push-Thru" sometimes referred to as the "Pull-Thru" which I don't get. Though I RARELY perform sitting down (Personally I feel more vulnerable when sitting THOUGH I can do it) except for all my youtube videos, almost 500 now this shuffle is to me the most deceptive and a favorite of the late Martin Nash. My Sequence is a Push-Thru (the correct name I strongly think), followed by the Up The Ladder, and the Affas Gaffas cut. Also being a Mentalist who only loves GOOD, STRONG, MENTALISM if performing that as I believe cards can be used in Mentalism I'll just do a Push-Thru with a straight cut so as not to appear as a "Finger Flinger". Sorry I spent so much time on this Incredible Deck BUT I had to talk about false shuffles a little. Anyway this Rates a (9 1/2). 5) N.A.M.D. Deck By Marc Spelmann - This is a HOMEMADE Marked Deck, but if done right it is a Deck of Beauty. It's very EASY to make and READ. I however do the suit markings in a different place. 90% of EVERY Deck of cards I buy, before anything I automatically use this system. It wasn't until like 4 years ago that my interest in "Marked Cards" was ignited as I thought for many years that using a marked deck was very "Beginnerish" though that's not a real word. I then heard of these decks coming out that Top Professionals were using in their arsenal so I was like, so using a Marked Deck isn't bad after all. This deck is the only symstem that I've seen and liked where the marks weren't literally spelled out for you or the suit drawn out for you, that's well hidden in the Design unlike the Ted Lesley deck which is a Deck I'd never use ... R.I.P. This rated a (8 1/2). 6)Deland Deck - YEARS ago when first starting out I had this deck, but even then as a Beginner I thought this deck was way too obvious. I used it maybe 3 times in my life, the last time being like 21 years ago in my 22 years of being a Magician. This "Stripper" aspect is okay but that's about it. This rates a (3). Well that's it. Though I've never owned them I'd add to the list the C.T. Speed-Readers, and Larry Becker's Demon Deck just so long as it doesn't say "Demon Deck" on the box. The pros to the decks above with a rating a 8+ is that they are EASY to read and the Handmade one is BOTH Easy to Read and make. The cons are they will NOT (Except for the Dream Deck) pass the "Riffle Test" which I've found more and more people are learning about. Twice I've had people do that. Luckily is was during the many year phase of when I thought Marked Cards were for Amateurs. As far as the Lesley Deck, that is one Deck I would NOT use as I've heard of the "Horror Stories", one Magician on HERE posting once he was busted by a class of 3rd Graders. HECK NO. I think the VERY BEST MARKED CARDS ON THE PLANET are the "Juice Decks". I've seen a couple but am not for some reason able to alter my eyes to use them. Anyway I've given you a Great list of Great Decks, Machined and Handmade that except for the Juice Deck, are the very best. Thanks very much. God Bless & Happy Holidays, Ed

I just got a few Phoenix marked decks, and there is no comparison with the markings you can do with a bicycle. The marking is really well integrated in the back, and if you haven't tried yet, I promise you that you can read the card at every corner of the card with a single glimpse. I tried to mark by myself bicycle decks, but that is really not as effective as the phoenix.

For practicality, I mostly use Boris Wild's deck, but by preference, I choose the Madison Dealers. They look great, feel great, and the markings are very difficult to find. Easy to read if you have decent eyesight (mine's pretty bad) Also, I like the borderlessness of them. Good shtuff.
