I love watching magic on youtube, but I'm noticing an issue. I prefer to watch some of the best magician's performances of their tricks to see how they handle some situations. What I don't like is the young youtube performers that scatter youtube! I used to post my performances on youtube. Then later I realized that youtube should be used for showing other magicians your own tricks, but NEVER revealing anything. It can also be used for showing live performances. Youtube is not however good for performing someone else's tricks on your bed. I never post anything anymore, but a while ago I posted my own card trick. 6 months later I received a comment from somebody telling me to practice my slights and to "Really learn" the trick. I wasn't quite sure what he meant but since it was my own trick, I told him it was a work in progress. Then I decided to see what he does on youtube. He is the classic youtube magician. He reveals others' tricks, he performs others' tricks badly and is just a young kid.
I was kind of annoyed that this kid was telling me this stuff so I fired some things back at him about how terrible it is to expose magic. He wrote back and claimed that he teaches people how to do magic, and said that I am not a real magician because I don't learn from people like that card trick teacher dude. He also said that he was a better magician than me because he had more subscribers. When I read that, I was absolutely disturbed that anybody would base their skills on youtube subscribers. I never post anything on youtube because if I ever ended up like that guy, I would be terrible. The real scare is that there are so many people just like him. The last thing we need are bad magicians, and I can't stand any of this stuff. |

There's a reason that I disable comments for my video. I'm not about to give a jerk a soapbox to stand on.
