I did not buy it to be manly. I am over 40, no need for that crap any more. Once I hit 25 all that testoserone induced idiocy went away. It made softball a lot easier. Before 25 I had to dive for balls and such in the field. After 25 if it was 5 feet that way or the other way it was a home run!

The HASTY-BAKE has been voted one of the top five grills year after year, and is made in Tulsa, Oklahoma U.S.A. combine it with green pecan wood and you will never use anything else.
That is just my humble opinion.
Our friends don't have to agree with me about everything and some that I hold very dear don't have to agree about anything, except where we are going to meet them for dinner.

I can't find it, but Mystery Science Theater 3000 had a skit where Joel invented the "Andrew Lloyd Weber grill" A grill specially designed to burn any and all scores by Andrew Lloyd Webber."
JOEL: "The score to Jesus Christ Superstar, the score to Starlight Express, the score to Chess." CROW: Wait a minute! That wasn't by Andrew Lloyd Webber, that was by Tim Rice! JOEL: It doesn't matter! The Andrew Lloyd Weber grill can handle it all!

At 25 I was not as manly as he will be at 80.

Congrats on the Egg, Danny! I'm sure you'll enjoy it Which model did you get?
Don't know if I mentioned, one of the best ways to start it is a torch with MAPP gas. (Don't use a propane torch, get one specifically for MAPP.) Hold it over the coal in five different spots for about 30 seconds each; you'll have the charcoal burning hot in no time flat. Also, be sure to check out the Big Green Egg community through their website. They're an awesome resource for questions and recipes.

Oh no I don't want to hang with those people LOL!!!!
I got the XL egg. Way too big, but then again I had to be as manly as possible. I use a grill every night. I don't use the oven at all to be serious. So this works perfect. I may end up hating the thing, but I seriously doubt it. I have no idea about "better or worse" when compared to other cooking aparatus. I know it works great for what I want it to. It fits into the way I need it to work, so for me it is perfect. Thank you for recomending it. I have to say it is sort of ugly, but that is being taken care of also. (I have a feeling I could have circumvented a LOT of arguement with a PM to you LOL.)

Bloody commies - go back to China - 'don't use propane' - what would Hank Hill have to say about that?

Well, Destiny, you could use propane to light it, but MAPP burns hotter so it lights better. Unless you're referring to propane over charcoal for actually grilling... I'll never grill with propane again.
Danny, if you always grill, you're going to love it. Get a plate setter and you'll never need an oven again. You can even bake brownies on a Big Green Egg- it holds temperature that well. As for ugly... it will grow on you. I recommend a redwood grilling table- the red and green contrast works nicely. Especially if you want to smoke a turkey for Christmas.

Charcoal is just such a pain in the ass to clean up after. It makes the best tasting stuff for special occasions, but for daily use the propane grill is much more convenient.
Holy Hilton! Just looked up the prices on those things! Average is around $800! $800??? For a charcoal grill??? You out yo' *** mind!

Critter- this is lump charcoal (hardwood charcoal) we're talking about. It's no trouble at all. Burns pretty clean- just scrape out the ash every so often (the egg is designed to make this easy.) And since it's lump charcoal and not briquettes, you can even use the ash for compost.

But it's completely worth it, especially if you grill a lot. It's not just a grill, it's a ceramic oven, and it will last for years... you just may end up leaving it to your kids in your will.

To be fair the clean up was tougher on my gas grill. I am NOT a fan of propane and the taste. Seriously. Just a matter of preferance.
Yea it costs, but then again so does an oven. This is basically a convection oven. It DOES hold heat that well. I mean in the gas grill the metal will warp and... well this is ceramic and it will not warp.

They had a special on the Food Network about a BBQ contest in Las Vegas. Rows of grills producing all sorts of wonderful things to eat! Someone pointed out that not one of those award winning chefs used propane. If you want to, that's fine. I'm just putting that out there.
