That I saw one of the all-time great boxing matches: Leonard-Hearns 1. Fantastic back & forth struggle with Leonard rallying for the 14th round TKO, trailing on all judges' cards.

I was there.
One of the most electric nights in the history of the sweet science. Good call!

I didn't see the fight live, but I did have the chance to meet Tommy and see him train at the Kronk gym before that fight. It was the only time I'd ever been that close to fighters and a a sense of how hard they hit. So different from TV.

Crazy when I first saw this topic I was watching my DVD of UFC 2. Another classic of the fight world.

I've seen that fight a dozen times, including the first time. A great all-time bout, no doubt. The rematch was disappointingly ruled a draw. Ray himself admitted that Tommy won that fight. He also admitted that he waited until Hagler was on a downward slide before he agreed to fight him, and that he wouldn't have beaten him in his prime, which in no way diminishes Leonard--he was smart! If he hadn't come back for those last 2 fights years past his prime and with years of inactivity, he would have lost only one fight: Duran I, which he thoroughly and convincingly avenged in Duran II (stomach cramps or no).

And speaking of Duran, before he put on weight to challenge Leonard, let's not forget that he was a ridiculous 71-1, with over 60 knockouts. The one loss was a close decision (to Esteban DeJesus), which he avenged twice by knockout.
At the time of the stoppage of the first Leonard-Hearns fight, Hearns was ahead on all cards - by 4, 3, and 2 points. Had he survived the 14th, he probably would have lost a 10-8 round on all cards. If he stayed on his feet and lost the last round by a 10-9 margin, we would have had a split decision draw (and a bazillion dollar rematch!)
