Those of us who are "bred to a harder thing than triumph" may be consoled that, like Edgar Rice Burroughs composing "Tarzan" on the variegated stationery of his failed business enterprises, failure may provide the "right stuff" from which success eventually emerges. At least according to the headmaster of the Riverdale Country School, according to the New Duranty Times:
Quote:
For the headmaster of an intensely competitive school, Randolph, who is 49, is surprisingly skeptical about many of the basic elements of a contemporary high-stakes American education. He did away with Advanced Placement classes in the high school soon after he arrived at Riverdale; he encourages his teachers to limit the homework they assign; and he says that the standardized tests that Riverdale and other private schools require for admission to kindergarten and to middle school are “a patently unfair system” because they evaluate students almost entirely by I.Q. “This push on tests,” he told me, “is missing out on some serious parts of what it means to be a successful human.” |

A good point- most successful entrepreneurs and similar have multiple early failures before they eventually get there.

Yes, but sometimes when people fail their feelings get hurt.

The secret to success is to do what is necessary.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

My secret to success has been to never fail (Well, almost. There was that one calculus class I tried to take...)

It's like a baby learning to walk or kids learning to ride a bicycle...
Falling is part of the learning. You have to fall to learn to get it right...

With some luck, huge "life changing" failures probably occur with far less frequency. But we go on regardless, standing up for the next. I guess most of us are hard-wired that way? |
