I have a client who wants me to do a Bar B Q for a co op in a couple of weeks. I spoke to her on the phone and she couldn't pin down a time, then she asked what I do.
I explained that I am a magician, and in this case I would do walk around as well as a stage show.
What do you wear she asked.
I said a tux.
Do you paint your face?
Trying to be calm I said, Not as a magician. I do that when I am a clown.
Oh, you're a clown too.
Now the whole procedure started over..what do I do , what do I wear etc.
Then I asked what kind of show she would prefer..the magic show or the clown show.
She says Aren't they the same thing?
No, I explained, one is a magic show and the other is a traditional clown show.
Now she is thinking it over and will call me back with her decision.

Boy it is hard to remain calm when someone seems so incapable of getting it together!

Sorry..just had to vent.

That's when I would just start making stuff up, "Well, you see, then I sever my own arm with a rusty grapefruit spoon and beat a live monkey with it until it sings The Girl From Ipanema. Oh yeah, and I'll be doing this while wearing pink angora sweater and green rubber fishing boots. How's that sound?"

Oh no! I think a blood vessel deep within my brain has finally burst with rage.

BRB, gotta call an ambulance.

I'd have to agree with firedice27 on this....it would have been too tempting to have some fun with her. You could inviter her to be a part of your routine...instead of "Who's on Base" just call it "Who's OFF base?"...
Actually, the more I think about it... you really told this well, you SHOULD make it a part of your act!! It's classic! I've always said to use real life experience to form your routine...there you go!
