Back in the days of black and white TV in America, there was a show featuring Mister Ed, a talking horse. I remember watching it and enjoying it. I took some ribbing over the years, but not too much.
Now I bill myself as - what else - "Mister Ed". The kids don't know anything about the horse; even most of their parents don't get it. So no big deal. But every now and then I run into someone my age or older who makes some reference to it. "Any relation to the horse?" or something similar. I'd like to be ready for a good "follow-up" that can capture that and play on it. I usually say something like "He was my twin brother, but I'm the handsome one" or "What now, Wilbur?", but those don't have the oomph I'm hoping for. Any suggestions? Ed |

I kind of like the Wilbur reply.
Umm No but we were once in a stable relationship. People ask the same question of my brother, Seabiscuit. Do you mean why the long face? Sorry I have to go, I'm in the 3:20 at Newmarket. Of course, of course! |

I can make a horse mouth sound as well as the sound of horse walking. It might fit what you are looking for.
Extra points for the magician/writer that helped write this and other 60's sitcoms. Hint he also wrote a column for TLR in the 60's. Harris

A horse is a horse of course, of course
And no one can talk to a horse of course Unless of course the name of the horse Is the famous Mister Ed. Notice he always got "stalled" at the door? You are not alone! Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

Great line ideas! I especially like magicgeorge' idea... "No but we were once in a stable relationship."
also don't forget to strike the ground to two or three with your foot. I was a big Mr. Ed fan too, I remember being fascinated with the fact that they could get his mouth moving to simulate talking. |

Ledgerdermania a column by Lou Derman.
He wrote for TLR as well as Lucy, Mr. Ed and other programs. His column had a lot of comedy and performance gold. Harris still learning after all these years...

He also wrote a little paperback book titled ADD COMEDY TO YOUR ACT directed towards magicians. This very rarely appears for sale on the used lists and is worthwhile adding to your library should you come across one.

For 1/2 of my life I had to put up with people saying HI-HO SILVER when I was introduced to them. It doesn't happen as much any more. My best two comebacks were, "No, John as in LONG JOHN" and "GET OFF MY BACK!".
I would suggest something like "No we are not related but my father, the General, used to supply his oats". Of course if they don't know your last name that won't work.
