I had the opportunity to preview Docc Hilford’s new book “The Hanussen Dossier” and I think it’s terrific stuff. At the risk of being accused of Hype, I strongly recommend you check it out for yourself.
Those familiar with Docc’s special brand of Mentalism have probably read or own a number of his prior books. Whether they are the older ones like “Band of the Hand” (a personal favorite) or the newer line of the Real Time Mentalism series, they were usually 30 to 48 page booklets printed on US letter-sized paper folded in half. With his new Unholy Trio set (and I’ve only read the Hanussen book so far,) Hilford has expanded his manuscript to a whopping 145 pages, which delivers much more background and detail than ever before. While I’m a fan of the older books, I find this new format to be a Big Step Forward. Devoting an entire book around one piece teaches you every subtlety to build your own performance. And that's a rarity in magic/mentalism literature. Docc goes into great detail of a 1928 performance by the German mystic Erik Jan Hanussen (if you don’t know about him, google or wiki the name – it’s worth it) and then deconstructs the act with one method using an assistant and a totally different method for a solo performance. The greater emphasis and explanation is on the solo version. The methods are both simple and bold. I think what distinguishes all of Hilford’s work is how he creates dramatic tension and develops his pieces as theatrical performances. That line of thinking (and teaching) takes us away from presenting clever tricks and puzzles, and leads the reader toward a more emotionally satisfying and powerful presentation. This is definitely one of them. “The Hanussen Dossier” takes you beat by beat through the entire script and performance. Docc gives you moves, the language and most importantly the thinking behind it all to build a haunting performance piece. I really like it and the added length and detail of the manuscript make it a standout among Hilford’s work. This one is a keeper! Regards, B. |

Thanks B.Clay, I'm glad you like it.
I appreciate feedback. For those who don't know, Hanussen's actual Q&A routine is there as well, plus his secret method of pencil reading. Both are based on several sources including Punx and Ted Lesley. Have you tried any of the other stuff B.Clay? For those interested, the package B.Clay mentioned is at docchilfordproducts (dot) com The Egyptian Living Dead Q&A and ECHO-Murder by Design also contain new Q&A. These are limited releases and Saturday the offer will be pulled. It's just a 3 day THANK YOU to the newsletter readers. Docc |

I have just started reading the set, and went through through the Egyptian...Great stuff! Just started reading Hanussen and it is quite amazing as well. This is not just typical mentalism tricks, this is producing miracles. What a great set and the deal is a bargain. BTW, these go GREAT on an iPad! I have turned my iPad into a veritable Grimoire of Magic(k) and Mentalism.

I've only read some of it, but it is indeed good stuff and the ebooks look cool too! I prefer hard copy and have been printing it our little by little. Some of this takes a while to print out because of the high def images ... not a complaint, just a comment.♠

Just wanna boost this back to the top.
I hardly buy anything these days. I don't want to soud arrogant, but I feel I have my act and everything else required I will lean from real work performances. Docc is one of these exceptions. Doccs attitude, style and perfection and unrivalled! Furthermore, I love billet work and q&a. That being said, this is one of the greatest purchases in a while. Docc just seems to 'get it' he's the only person I've learned something from everything they've released. Everything he releases gives us clues to his thinking process which I wish I fully understood as its perfect I watched him close a mentalist show in Vegas for 20 minutes with a card routine and it brought the house down! Him doing even part of what he releases will destroy audiences. That's the beauty of these. We don't just learn the routine, we learn everything that goes with it. I cannot recommend these enough and even though the sale is over, this deal is still worth more than the asking price. You're going to be very pleased with this purchase. Col
