Ok, I've been watching a lot of flourish downloads and I have to say that I'm completely taken by this. You card flourishers amaze me. So I got to learn this art!
Are there books on it, preferably with good illustrations? Or should I hunt down DVD's? I'm looking for strictly flourishes, I have enough card trick books to poison a small country. Thanks in advance! Here's a free bunny!------> |

Here ya go...
http://www.flourishman.com/ I just ordered one the other day after hearing all of the good reviews. I would also recommend The Art of Card Manipulation 1-3(DVD's) by Jeff McBride. There are also cheaper alternatives like Jean Hugard's Card Manipulations (how I got started) and others but I would recommend the top two. |

Videos that really spotlight flourishes are pretty few and far between...
Brian Tudor has two videos out: Showoff Showoff 2 and one new DVD, I think it is called GenerationX (or something close) The Buck Twins have a video out called: Pasteboard Animations De'vo has a DVD coming out soon called Cradle to Grave. De'vo has also previously released some flourish material on CD. ************************************* There is more interest in this art everyday so keep watch for new stuff coming out. Although you said "no more books, please" I would be remiss not to echo RobertP. The Flourishman's book is chock full of nothing but flourishes. GREAT, GREAT book! (The McBride stuff is also some of the best!) I hope that helps a bit. |

The Flourishman book all the way! Then I'd go for Tudor's show off (not gen-x), McBride maybe, but definitely go for De'vo's new DVD Cradle to Grave. http://www.superhandz.com/images/teaser.mp4
For his teaser video that makes you want to start jamming. Superhandz also has a few DVDs planned. You can start by going to handlordz.com and getting the free downloads there that have 3 great flourishes on them! I'd personally stay FAR away from Cap Casino and the Buck twins. I have both of their material and in my opinion it was just some bad remixes of tudor’s stuff. Just more of the same, it would be nice to see some others like Jerry and De'vo, but unfortunately right now, no one else even comes close. |

Thanks all!
I bought Jean Hugard's Card Manipulations just the other day on a whim and that's what started my interest. It's pretty helpful, but I wish it was more illustrative. De'vo was whom I saw on the web and he just made my jaw drop. That stuff is crazy! The Flourishman book looks incredible. Thanks for the link. A bit pricey for me at the moment, but definitely something to keep in mind down the road. Thanks again for the help, everyone! |

My video, "Pasteboard Animations" is no longer available as I'm about to release a DVD. Anyway, if you're looking for books on flourishes I would suggest these:
IMAGICATION by T.G. Murphy Out of Control by Chris Kenner The Buck twins notes @ http://www.dananddave.com The Jerry Andrus books The Flourish Book by Jerry Cestkowski All these have great illustration/photo's and extremely clear text to help you learn quickly and accurately. Possible videos to get are: Green Magic (original one) by Lennart Green Brian Tudor's stuff is good. Superhandz, I believe has some videos out. But to be honest your best bet to really learn flourishes is to attend magic conventions, usually in Vegas. There are lots of guys out there who are willing to share their material with others, including myself. So see you at the conventions. later, dan |

Firedice27, I can't believe I forgot, but I would STRONGLY recommend this book by Bill Tarr. It is illustrated beautifully and the sleights are rated in difficulty. If you don't want to spend too much (the $13.30 price tag is unbelievable) then this is a great book to get you off and running. The second book is also good but a lot harder to find. I can't recommend this book enough.
Here's a link from Amazon and it has a look inside feature where you can see how the book is laid out. Click Here! |

Does anyone else find this ironic? Don't look at Dan and Dave Buck's material or Cap's either because it is like Brian Tudor's, but it would be nice if there were more people like Jerry and De'vo? If there were more people like Jerry and De'vo then they wouldn't be original.
I personally like everyone's material. -Jason |

I meant more original people like Jerry and De'vo. For example, David Crofts, or TG Murphy are good examples. All with their own style. I would kill for more people that are awesome like this that all have different styles! The bucks, and Cap Tudor are pretty much all the same in my opinion.

Jerry's book is the one you want! The instruction is the best, very clear.

The enyclopedia is the best flourish refference available! It's amazing and is HUGE!
I forgot to mention that it has over 500 pages. lol And has original material too. There really is nothing else like it on the market. Period. I almost forgot about TG Murphy's new book coming out. All on flourishes! Should be awesome! Phantom |
