I really like Avatar: The Airbender TV animated series, and think anyone into creating a sense of real magic (or Mystery School, ha ha) should watch the whole three season series. I just thought I'd mention that even though it has nothing to do with what I'm about to say...
As far as my past original and professional magic repertoire, I do believe I have created some variations that, in my opinion are superb pieces, and yet I have only one true student who desires to learn these effects to keep them alive. I have thought about putting these all into a lecture that would essentially consist of personal ideas that I don't do because they don't fit into the format of what I do professionally. But these ideas HAVE been audience tested, and are true workers. Off the top of my head, certain routines I would consider putting in would be the following: Flurry Coin Production (Impossibilia, John Bannon / I personally called it "Coin Opener" Nu Close Up Sketches DVD) Eraser Head (Nu Close Up Sketches DVD) The Invisible Watch (Steve Hobbs, Labyrinth #4 One Man Issue) Cloak & Dagger Vanish (Linking Ring, one man parade-- 1998?) Unpredictable-- (MUM-- front cover one-man issue, Dec 1999) Funnel Vanish-- (Linking Ring, one man parade-- 1998?) Mystery of the Silk Handkerchief-- (Lee Asher, Hit the Road DVD) Nu Way Sealed and Healed-- (Nu Ways, 2003) Nu Way Winston Freer-- (Nu Ways, 2003) ...and that's just off the top of my head. This is all solid material, and I would one day love to show y'all how to rock these old gems. If any of you have ever seen me do any of this stuff, please chime in! It's been a while since I've done a lot of these effects, so I'd be truly interested if anyone remembers me doing any of this stuff! Alain |

G'day Alain
I saw you present and explain - Nu Way Sealed and Healed-- (Nu Ways, 2003)- at Taylor's "Super Day" in Sydney, Australia some years ago - I purchased your notes and have incorporated the method into one of my most popular routines. I truly value what you presented and the way that you interacted with everyone. Great to meet you again here at the Café. Bob Latta (aka Troppo Bob) |

Bob!
Thank you so much for chiming in and reminding me! I just recently ran into Sean Taylor here in the states (just last Sunday and Monday actually!), and all I can say is that you all are very lucky to have people as clever as him and his crew- Dave Everett and Richard Paddon! That is one brilliant crew. I even forgot I did that in Australia, but I'm very happy that I did, now that you've told me. That routine was at one time part of my college mentalism show in which I talked about perception. It was actually one of the strongest effects that I've ever had the pleasure of watching many a college audience gasp at! Alain |

In "Unpredictable" (which was published I think THREE TIMES, once in the Linking Ring (I think), MUM (Dec 1999), and also an early set of lecture notes entitled Nu Discoveries) I do a bare-hand production of a spoon. I'm sure reading it, one might find it to be one of those things that I came up with to fill up space, or something that is specific to only me that no one else can do.
Last night, I was meeting with a woman who had an eight year old son. So I decided I would produce the spoon for him in this manner and then bend it for both of them. The kid's jaw dropped to the floor! The look on this boy's face was priceless, as if you can imagine it, it looks like you are showing two hands completely empty while grabbing at invisible particles in the air. Then suddenly, it's as if you can push the particles tightly together, and then stretch it out VISIBLY into an average sized spoon (and as I did it last night, with rolled sleeves)! My friend Doug was with me when it happened, so he saw it too. I've never seen anyone else do it or even mention it, but that production is TIGHT! All I'm saying on this thread is that I've killed and buried a LOT of worthwhile material that I think magicians would find undeniably practical, unusual and even bizarre. In another early manuscript I wrote called "6", I have a very clean "bloody egg force" (out of a carton of 6 eggs) that many of you doing Halloween shows this year would have LOVED to know about, I am just saying...
