Just picked up Oilslick, which is Rus take on the oil and water plot, only this is done face up in the spectators hands.
Rus mentions his is no frill, which is is, no fancy editing just the performance from his DVD and an explanation of just him and a camera explaining the method which for me was perfect. Very nice effect, easy to perform. Another great peice of visual magic from Rus. I found a demo here: http://www.deceptionartist.com/newrelease.cfm I like the fact that this uses no gimmicks, is impromptu and can be done with any deck of cards. My type of effect. |

Can't agree more Jason. I really enjoyed this. I have been looking for an oil/water plot that used no gimmicks but yet is still so slick (no pun intented!). And this is it. Something you can do impromptu but yet blow the specs away! You get a strait forward explanantion and demo video. Nothing else is needed. Again- a routine simple enough that allows you to play on your presentation. Thanks for releasing this one Russ!

By the way- one can learn this and be performing it pretty darn quickly! One slight is used and it's one of the most basic counts in card magic. I think almost all would be comfortable with it. Otherwise- not much to this but some good visuals of the separation.

Given that it is impromptu and uses no gaffs or gimmicks one can't expect this to look as clean as e.g. Anthony Owen's, of course, - but for what it is, Oil Slick very nicely fills a gap by being completely impromptu and using easy moves. Nice one!

Anthony Owens is nice, and I have credited him as an inspiration.
But I wanted a version that could be performed face up, completely impromptu and be done with any deck of cards. And that moment where you can just walk away from the table leaving everything thier to be examined. I normally do this with borrowed cards, so you can just walk away. This is one of my favourite peices of magic. Thanks for the comments nicolino R |
