Well dang. 'Course, it's been a long time since I've seen those longer movies with Bergen.

Hey, I was looking for "Pure Fued" and couldn't find it. Lo and behold you've got it. Your site is such a great resource. Thanks.

Back on topic. It is my firm belief that the only people who argue that lip control is not important are those that don't have it, or are not constantly striving to get/maintain it. It would be OK for them to invoke Bergen if they were as good as he in all other aspects of vent. But they're not.

I think lip control, comedy, character development and good puppetry are equally important. Every performer has different strengths. If we're weak on one or another, we need to work harder on that aspect. Trying to find a reason to justify not working harder on a weak area won't help you improve.

Jay Johnson said something about a triangle.
Life is too important to take seriously.

I completely agree. Excellent lip control is necessary, but not sufficient.

Very well said.
One of the frustrating things that always happens when the topic comes up, the flappers always try to twist the words of anyone saying lip control is an essential part of the art, to make it sound like they are saying it is the only important, or the most important. But I've yet to see anyone say that, most all who talk about the importance of lip control say just what you said Mr. Pitts, all the aspects are equally important.
