Hi folks-
What are considered to be the "best" type of scissors for rope magic - I'm a newbie and shears just aren't cutting it....pardon the pun. Thanks, AC Posted: Nov 29, 2011 2:57pm Ok, found gizillion of old posts-nevermind. AC |

I've bought two years ago a pair of sheers from Abbotts, and they're excellent. Still working like he first day. There so good that even the audience goes WOW when the audience assistant is able to cut a stage rope in half with just one "snipp". ^^

I bought a set from David Ginn magic site. They will cut any rope in two with one snip, even a finger.

Go to JoAnn fabric's, buy a nice pair of dress makers scissors that comes in a hard plastic case. Take your new scissors to a knife sharpening service, and have the points ground round. Never, never, ever, ever let anyone in your house use your rope cutting scissors without exceptions, and you will have a sharp, safe pair of scissors for the rest of your life.
If you let your wife wrap Christmas presents with them it won't be because I didn't warn you. HAPPY HOLIDAYS

I second what Al says above! Get the points ground down!
I use the Scissors that Dany Baronian sells, and have found none better! http://baroniantrading.com/shears.html P.S.: His Rope is the BEST too! =Frank=
The Early Bird may get the Worm, but it's the SECOND Mouse that gets the CHEESE!!!

I use tin snips. They have rounded tips that won't tear your hip pocket.

When I am performing in my period shows, I use a very sharp knife to fit the era. Other than that, I found a pair of tailor scissors at JoAnn Fabric (which I assume is the same pair as referenced above by Al) and they work very well. They have a very fine tooth on them that grips the rope and it cuts a clean, crisp edge every time. A pair of Messermeister kitchen shears would also do a very fine job.

Sometimes I also use a vintage straight razor. It's interesting how certain props may "dress" the effect. Just thinking out loud.

A good pair of Trauma Scissors work well, they're made for cutting thru denim, etc. They're the ones with the offset angled blades. Blunted ends, a kid can help cut the rope without drawing blood. I've used them for years. They're inepensive, lightweight and sharp.
And, like Frank recommends, Danny Baromian's are excellent, heavy and sharp. They'll cut thru ROPE rope. Those puppies are the tin snips of rope shears.

This is the scissors that I've been using for the last 3 years. They are very sharp and don't take much pressure to cut even the thicker rope. Tricky Ricky |

The ones I use are made by Clauss; http://www.shopscissors.com/high-leverage-shears-p-231.html
They look great on stage and work very well on rope. |
