Ravens of War
It is said, in the old sagas, that the Hird carries before it a banner for war. In times of peace, the banner is seen to be clean and bright. No ordinary banner this, for the cost in Danegeld was high indeed, made of fine silk from the eastern trades, this banner has been touched by Freyja herself, for it is the original raven banner. You know that when the raven appears upon the banner, it means there will be war. If the banner remains white, it is a time of peace. (In later years, man will use our sign of peace as a sign of surrender, more pity to them for that.) You have also heard that when the raven appears, if the wings are flying, and the beak is open, then we shall see victory in battle, and the battle maidens will make a great feast. Though if the raven flies not, and stillness holds its cries, then we shall be defeated. Can you guess what treasure I hold within this box? Of course! It is the banner of our fathers-fathers, the remains of the very banner of battle, the true raven banner. It is old, and perhaps a little rough about the edges, but it is still white! (Hold up a white silk "banner".) What say you? You think this is some old rag of a shirt? You think I would tell you an untruth? Watch now, For as we all know there will be war soon enough, who doubts? (crumple the silk in your fist and hand it to the 'doubter')Let them come forward and hold up this banner for you to see! (Have them open up the 'banner' and show...) Look! The raven flies, war comes and the day shall be ours! May the Valkyrie choose you to feast with Odin should you die in battle! (Your choice to tell the story of the banner and its curse, that the bearer of the banner always dies in the battle, though the force will win the war!)

One point, the White Flag is not always a symbol of surrender, but one of wanting truce to parley.
Just being nit-picky. It's an Etta-mological thing, if you catch my drift! Lee Darrow, C.Ht.

Ahh true, but a "good" viking would not easily sue for truce, they had to have it written on the tree branch, then smack them with it to get their attention, (at least according to a number of the sagas!) Point taken though and I will adjust accordingly. Additionally, I have decided on the box and method, as I think mashing the magic flag into your hand for this one will simply NOT provide the level of atmosphere or awe for the routine!
