Hi guys
I have only been a member here a few months but I love reading all the posts. When I'm not on here, I spend most of my time practicing. I am mainly into card magic but have also delved into coins and sponge balls, following some great advice I recieved on here from other members. I feel I have learnt a lot in the last few months, only basic stuff but I have to start somewhere, right? I have learnt mainly from Royal Road To Card Magic book, Mark Wilsons Course In Magic book and the DVD set of Complete Card Magic as taught by Gerry Griffin, as well as Bobo book of Modern Coin Magic. So any other newbies out there who don't know where to start, have a look at these books and DVDs, there is a reason why so many people recommend them, it's because they are BRILLIANT! Cheers guys Andy |

Have you checked out any of my books, Andy? Might be worthwhile for you - if you're into cards. HL.

Harry, I have read so much about your books, they are on my wish list! There are many books I would like, its a matter of cost at the moment.
I know you are one of THE great card men and I fully respect you for it. I have seen posts on here where you take a lot of abuse, for reasons unknown to myself, but in my humble opinion you are a man to be respected and admired for your work, which I hope to add to my collection soon. Is there any particular book you would recommend for an eager newcomer? Todd, thank you for the encouragement, I intend to!!! |

Andy: I'd suggest you start with THE CLASSIC COLLECTION, Vol. 1. If you go to my magic website - third one listed under this post - and click on Magic Books, you can get a general idea of content, etc. You can always go to my personal email address (first one listed under this post) with any questions. Best - Harry L.

Hi Andy,
I'm fairly new to card magic too but I can unhesitatingly recommend Harry's Best Ever... DVD series. I now have all four and they are terrific. I also recommend getting them direct from Harry. I bought the last two DVDs in the series direct from him for shipment to the UK and they arrived quicker than orders from usual UK supplier (mentioning no names). |

Thanks Harry, I will check it out.
Thanks Foxlute, that's great to know. |

Andy, Harry Lorayne books are really good. Most of his tricks get pretty strong reactions from laymen. I use many of his tricks.
Royal Road To Card Magic is a really good beginner book that has a lot of strong tricks. You'll see as time goes by, you'll go back to that book and go "oh yeah, I forgot about this one" and since you'll have more experience, you'll understand the tricks more and perform them better. You might even modify them slightly. A lot of hidden gems in that book. I'd also recommend Card College Volumes one through five. Volume one and two contain similar material to Royal Road, but with a lot more detail and insight. Plus, there is stuff in those first two volumes that aren't covered in RRTCM such as Transfer Cuts, Spread Cull, forces such as the Goldin Force, a very deceptive Riffle Force, etc. For sponge balls, get Spongeball Toolbox DVD. I can't remember who teaches in it offhand, but it really helped me. Another great DVD for spong balls is from World's Greatestes Magic: Sponge Balls. It's a little more advanced, however you'll get routines from Roger Klause, Frank Garcia, Albert Goshman, etc. |

Thanks metaljohn
Yes I have the spongeball toolbox, its taught by Steve Dacri, it is excellent, I am learning the basics at the moment. Thanks also for the DVD tip, another on my evergrowing list! Choices, Choices!! What next? Harry Loraynes book or Card College? May have to draw cards to see who wins!!!! |
