There is an illusion which can be done as an escape, or as a metamorphosis-style exchange. It uses an upright post and a series of hoops. The assistant or magician is trapped inside the hoops.
I am having a case of cranial flatulence and cannot remember the name of this illusion. At any rate, I am looking for possible sources to either buy or build (if it's not too complicated and is in the public domain) this illusion. Ideas?

It is similar to this, except it uses solid hoops (although I REALLY like this one!)

I would agree, Stanyon. Unfortunately, many theatres are cracking down on the use of fire/sparks due the number of idiot rock bands that have burned down theatres.

Thank you, Tristan...that is EXACTLY the one I was looking for!
Any ideas who makes it, or if there are plans available...difficulty in making/performing, etc?

Dahih Beik is right. Harold Voit from the Zauberzentrale in Pullach, next to Munich in Germany hold the building and commercial rights to the Ring Illusion (Reifenkäfig Illusion).
So you have no right to build or have one build from another illusion builder. Try to get one from him, it's not that expensive : 1270,- € (about $ 950,-). It'll save you time, money and eventuel hassles concerning rip-offs. Here's the link : http://www.zauberzentrale.de/shop/ZZM-Ex......%29.html Good luck and stay away from bad copies and rip-offs. Oliver. |

Thank you, Oliver and Dahih.
I am well aware of the "rip-off market" and the need to secure performance rights, etc. I will contact the originator to see about buying one from him.

Hank Lee's Magic Factory #14 catalog shows a similar illusion on page 492 called "Ring Illusion". If you wish more catalog information let me know.

On this same forum page is one entry titled "Escape Illusion" (hboy)
look under this entry - tristanmagic (regular user) Posted: Dec 10, 2011 8:32am reads as follows: The unique version of the Totem pole effect that you see on the video is a Peter Marvey creation and is not for sale.(Oliver, it is Peter on the video lol) Another great version, that is available, is the one Marcel uses: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgc7th55TKE) This youtube shows a similar illusion using chain instead of loop which is very interesting. see from 2:10
