Here's a few thoughts:
-The Card College Books, maybe just start with the first. - Ammar's Easy To Master Card Miracles dvds, start with the first 3 volumes. -The Essential Aldo Colombini DVD set, good range of material and not to difficult. - Daryl's Fooler Doolers DVD set, great range of material - The Magic Book by Harry Lorayne - Mysterio's Encylopedia of Magic and Conjuring by Gabe Fajuri, filled with classics - Subscription to Magic or Genii magazines -

Books:
Darwin Ortiz : Strong Magic - no tricks just how to improve performance....highly regarded book. Eugene Burger: Mastering the art of magic. Has some tricks but a lot about how to perform.....which is much harder. DVD's Thom Peterson's - Behind the curtain has a mix of strong stage and close up. Packs a punch, not overly difficult most of it. Mark James' Super charged classics are are also good. Magic "stuff" A brick of cards (a box of 12). Always useful - cards tend to get destroyed. Sharpie pens are also good....for signing cards/coins etc. Expensive but lovely (and good value) a Jerry O Connell plus wallet (don't get the small one get the large). Beautifully made and great as an everyday or magic wallet. Wallet reviews here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O58ZQPGz8p8 Danny |

Motown - I really like the suggestion of DVDs from Michael Ammar. His products are clearly taught and full of great tricks. He is usually 50% off on his DVDs on his website which makes it possible to get a lot of magic. I know he has had a hugh impact on my personal development as a magician.

The wallet thing sounds good! I am going to look into that. I think he has already accumulated a bunch of books and dvds so I am wary of that because of the possibility of duplicating something he already has.

Well, that wallet is very nice and seems like it would be perfect for him because it would give him the opportunity to try things out on people when he runs into them when he is out and around, and it would help forge his identity but unfortunately I cannot quite afford that. I am sure it is well worth the price but it is out of my budget range right now. It is tempting but I am sure he would have an idea how much I spent on it and I think he would be a little upset that I did spend that much.

Maybe I can save up enough for that in time for his birthday in May though. I really like the idea of the wallet. I wish I could get it for him.

The JOL Plus is a great wallet, but the smaller version might do just as well for a little less money. I have the smaller one and it's easier to carry around than the bigger one. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but for a tighter budget, I'd recommend the smaller one over nothing at all.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

You should check out Aldo Colombini's web site. Each of his products is $10 and right now he has a 2 for 1 special.
His farewell tour lecture notes are excellent.

I would recommend a performance mat and case to store his cards, gags, and props. I've made a lot of purchases (at least $1500) over the last year and the best purchase I made was the performance mat and carrying case. It wasn't expensive and its pretty hard to go wrong with these if he's serious about improving his craft

Got him a gift certificate already. I am going to get him a close up mat too I think. Thanks a lot for the recommendations for that!

Try E-Bay/Amazon/magicweek.co.uk there may be a second hand one. Then if you can't get it (and even if you can) remember that your love is the best gift. Love, Danny |
