So I have been showing this trick to a number of people with mostly good reactions.
However a couple of times after showing the trick to a kid, I found them just staring at me quizzically. It turns out that they could not see the illusion. To them it didn't look like it was floating. Did anyone else have this experience? Anyone know of any reasons that someone would not see the illusion? |

People with one glass eye, pirates, colorblinds, ... won't be able to appreciate the illusion.
Seriously though, how old where they? Very young children often have troubles with these kind of 3D-effects I have been told. |

I have never heard that but could be. I think one was 8 and one was 11.

Actually you can also add some of those with Lazy Eye's as well as some people with Lazy Eye's can't see 3D well or not at all.

The ChromaDepth system used for Lubor Fiedler's Flying Carpet doesn't function the way traditional 3D does. I would imagine that color blindness is the most likely culprit. Are the kids you've shown it to who had a problem boys? Color blindness affects mostly males.

Yes they were both boys as a matter of fact. I guess I'll have to give them a color-blind test next time they come over

I've met several people whose depth perception didn't work well. Blue Crystal was a total failure.
