I am thinking about getting the Frontier Suitcase Table for my kids show. I was wondering if anyone here has had one and what they think about them.
The idea of the suitcase table seems like it will make my show much easier to transport. |

Are you still there ryanwinkle?
First off, welcome to the Café. Sorry no one has responded to your post up to this point. Don't give up on us. As to your question, I have no experience with the Frontier Suitcase Table. Sorry. But for what it is worth, here are my impressions and thoughts. You are right in that such a table could make it easier to transport your show around. As to that particular table: 1) It seems expensive to me, but since I have never priced suitcase tables I could be quite wrong on that point. 2) What is it made of? If made of plywood it should be quite strong yet still lug-able. If made of particle board it will weigh a ton and may not be much fun to lug around, much less lift into and out of the trunk of your car. You'll be good and sweaty before your show even starts. 3) It looks functional, and well, quite ugly to me. You could drape something colorful over the whole affair I suppose. You appear young in your photo (yes/no?). If so I assume you have a limited budget (Who doesn't right?). For the money you would spend on the table in question you could buy a cordless circular saw and drill set at Lowes or Home Depot, a Kreg jig and some kreg screws, gorilla glue, wheels, paint, and plywood (which they will cut for you ) and build your own table to suit your exact specs and have money left over to buy that peanut butter and jelly trick you've always wanted. Also buy a used book on cabinet making to learn how to make a basic box, or just hop over to the Kreg tool site (No, I have no ownership interest in the Kreg company, but boy I wish I did!) and watch some videos. After you're done you'll be so proud and happy you just won't know what to do with yourself. Then go to the Workshop forum in the Special Interests section here at the Café and see what the rest of us are making. Plenty of good folks there ready to help and answer any questions you have. If all of the above just isn't your cup of tea, well go ahead and buy the dang table and report back to the rest of us how it all worked out. Good luck in your magical endeavors. :) Bapu

PS
Regarding the "you look young" comment, at my age everybody looks young! :)

I second Bapu's apology for no responses here. I usually only travel to certain forums, but now and again I go to other places. I just found your post.
I too am not familiar with the Frontier suitcase table. The one I have is Joe Lefler's large suitcase table and numerous other folks here do as well. It's expensive at about $400 but it's lightweight and very sturdy. Some folks have said they've used the same suitcased for more than fifteen years. I love mine, but then I don't know the Frontier table either. There are also numerous threads in here about suitcase tables and you may have already made a decision. And a belated Welcome to the Café, it's a great place.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |
