They are 70% done with the background check. Since I've no criminal history I doubt there will be any problems at that end and since I worked at the same place for over 20 years verifying that shouldn't be hard. I hope to know a start day in a day or two. Of course being so shell shocked over the last two or three years I won't believe it until I'm standing in the building and even then I'll be looking for snipers.

LIke Critter, I am crossing my fingers as well as my toes. Problem is, I keep falling down while trying to walk. Best of luck Santa. Keep us posted on this. God knows, you deserve something good happening after all you have been through.

Oman! I just got word that I have never been to prison and that I am me so I start this coming Monday! Now as long as I can keep gas in the car so I can get to work I'll be pretty good. Thanks for the well wishes! Note to tree huggers, there is no public transportation available to where this job is (odd since they claim to be the largest industrial (?) park in the US.
The getting of this job was interesting. I first heard of them having a cattle call for workers since it was just opening up (distribution mostly of baby/child oriented items such as strollers and whatever babies use) being done by a staffing company. I was sent into interview with another guy, they like to double up when interviewing, and it went like this: Teenage interviewer "So Sticky Icky (my real name), do you have any experience in distribution?" me "Yes, I've over 25 years experience in logistics doing everything from inventory control to international compliance" Teen interviewer to other guy my age also being interviewed "How about you Bob?" Bob "no, but guys like this man (nods toward me) and I are here for one thing, a paycheck" T.I. "Oh, so you have no experience?" Bob "In a warehouse? No because I had a real job before, we (again refering to me and note I have never seen this guy before) can do any job in a warehouse, hell, a monkey could do it" T.I "Okay, thank you and have a good day" me "did you have any questions for me? Hello?....?" So I was told later when I called to check that I wasn't qualified to work as a clerk for this company. I then went to another cattle call for them and asked if I could have another interview since the one I took part in I felt was ruined by the idiot I was sent in with. They told me "No, you are not qualified and don't meet our standards" This ticked me off so I went to the library and looked up this company and found little on them other than they are a couple years old and out of Seattle. I also noticed they were looking for management people who would work directly for the company rather than for the staffing agency so I filled out the application and attached my lil' resume. I go awhile without getting to the library due to a stint at Amazon where I was slave labor for ten days. I checked my email and found an older email asking me to call for an interview, which I did and I got a last minute interview which I attended and it went great. Well, it went great except with the director of supply chain who is an MIT grad, if you can believe an MIT person would go into supply chain, and she wanted someone who worked with residential / comsumer distribution while my background was hightech and business to business. She wants this other guy and her vote is more valued that the actual managers who work the warehouse and they hire this guy. I was bummed out and was preparing to head to the bay area to help my parents out with some work for a few days when the manager I interviewed with called me and said "We can't seem to have a meeting without you being brought up, you still want a job?". I told her yes indeedy and the next day was when I got the offer and then had to wait for the clearance etc. thus leading to today. There you have it gangsters, how I somehow got a job after years. The root reason I believe is the interviewers were all from either the South or Seattle and people who I could talk to that understood what I was saying and I understood them. I would get bounced if I interviewed locally because the local management types are very anti-employee, which I'm not, and didn't want to hire those that were highly qualified because most of the locals barely could do their jobs. So I will be managing the inventory and fullfilment and will have medical again. Yeah! |

Way to go Santa. Glad to hear it went well even though you had a jerk in the interview with you. Keep us posted on your development.

Great to hear it all worked out for you. I have a new job now myself with the trains, maybe we'll be hauling some of your goods.

I love the train industry, tried to get in with them. I don't think people realize how much freight is moved via rail. Much of what is sent air and truck ends up on a train.
