Hi all,
I am looking to find out more about toppits as it is a part of magic that is completely new to me..., how to use one, which is rated the best, etc. etc. What part of the Café would be best to discuss the toppit. Anyone have any advice, it would be really appreciated. Thanks, AA

Hi AA,
I'm with you ... don't know all the ins and outs of Toppits. But I am learning one of the really good resources for the Café is to go here: http://www.searchthemagiccafe.com Its an external search engine which will cross all of the forums and provide "hits". I did a quick search on Toppit and a 385 posts were found. Enjoy!

Toppits are used for vanishes. Jay Scott Berry's wife makes Toppits which he sells. Never used it but if it is good enough for him....

If you can find it: Ammar's Classic Topit DVD $35.00 This is the original Ammar material that was on two VHS tapes and it's superb. I have seen the tapes and the live lecture by Mike. There is good stuff out there, but I still think for the money this is the best.
I have heard good stuff about the Bob Fitch training videos, but at about $100 for the set....I don't know. Best,

Several recommendations, aside from the Ammar DVD (which is great) -
1) The book "Magic Page By Page" by Patrick Page has material on the Topit, as does his lecture DVD, "The Pageboy speaks", both available at http://www.patrickpagemagic.co.uk. Advice after a lifetime of professional topit use is worth listening to. Page's Topit is available from the same site. 2) The L&L DVD "Secret Seminars of Magic with Pat Page - Volume 3", 40 minutes on the Topit. $12.50 - a bargain for this material. The Kaps large coin vanish alone is worth it, but his "practical" vanish with the handkerchief is a work of genius. 3) David Penn's "21st Century Toppit" DVD is interesting - it's supplied with a toppit - and it has a slightly different take. Some good (competition winning) routines and advice. http://www.worldmagicstore.com 4) As an alternative, "The Pull Book" also by Patrick Page, at http://www.lybrary.com/pull-book-p-53995.html For both topits and pulls, the routine is the important thing. Advice from the three sources given above (Ammar, Page, Penn) differs in a few respects, so it's worth taking a peek at all three if you can. |

Thanks for all your advice!!
Drosselmeyer - I never knew about that search engine, well worth using as it searches across all forums! Thanks. Thanks to everyone for pointing me in the right direction, Ammar Page and Penn seem like the way to go. I'm probably gonna start with Penn - I have watched a lecture and DVDs of his and like his style of teaching (although I'm sure they're all good in their own way) I'll be sure to report back with any progress I make that may help others in a similar position.
