As a new member, I have spent some time nosing about to try and get a feel for the sight. Whilst poking about, I came across a discussion thread about card effects with borrowed decks, what caught my eye was mention of 'devistation' by Tom Daugherty, alongside Daryls 'untouched'.
I have been using untouched for some time and find this to be an extremely exciting effect with a massive 'No Way' factor. For this reason I was intrigued by the mention of 'Devisitation' an effect I have not seen before. I Wonder if someone would be kind enough to describe this and perhaps post a pointer of where I might be able to get hold of the manuscript for this (bearing in mind I live in the U.K). Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to give best wishes Dave |

Can you tell me what is the effect of Daryl's "Untouched"? Have not seen it yet... and which book/video can I learn it from? Thanks

Magician ask the spec to shuffle the cards and to spread the cards with the faces facing the magician so he can take out a prediction card. The prediction card is placed aside face down. Spectator is asked to deal the cards and stop anytime they wish. Then spec is to take the new pile and deal that into two piles. The two top cards will prove that the magician's prediction was correct. The first card represents the value, say it's the 10 of Diamonds, the second card represents the suits, say it's the 6 of clubs....... the prediction is turned over and it's the 10 of clubs. Very effective for the simple people. However, I wouldn't do this trick to "thinking" college students. You could learn this trick in Ammar's Easy to Master Card Miracles.... forgot which volume. |

"Devastation" by Tom Daugherty is as follows:
A spectator shuffles a deck, cuts it into a random number of packets and mentally selects a card from one of these packets. They shuffle the cards in their packet face down and deal the cards into a pile on the table (remembering the number at which their card lies). They reassemble the deck in a random order and cut the cards several times. They honestly have no idea where their card is located in the deck. The magician proves they know the spectator's card AND the number at which it fell during the earlier counting phase. Completely impromptu, deck can be borrowed, no stooges, no sleights whatsoever. Devastating. I've made quite a reputation with this (my handling of Tom's brilliant reworking of a so-so effect buried in "Greater Magic"). This effect, and a whole lot more, can be found in my first lecture notes "The Lecture Your Mother Never Gave You." PM me for more info.

Untouched can also be found (along with a lot of other terrific magic) in Magic For Dummies. If you like self-workers, try Chad Long's The Shuffling Lesson. Just my two Canadian cents worth.
