My favourite has to be Joe Riding's Jumbo Card effect - 'the Irish 3 Card Trick'. It's visible, a fun plot, doesn't need table space and instantly re-sets.
After that, it's a close run between the following: my opener is either the Kartis Bill Change or using Dual Control to suspend borrowed/table items, Rinkey Dinky (a ring flite to your car keys), Paul Gordon's Insurance Policy linked to card in wallet (palm version) and sponge balls. None of these effects require any table space (nor those awful things called close-up mats!). If strolling/stand-up mingling, add to these the Kartis Coin Box, Hopping Halves and stopping a watch with a PK ring. These tricks are more or less all that I now use (sometimes I might do a few things with a TT and a TUC Coin). Now that's a lot of effects but clearly you don't perform them all in one set. However, after selling literally a room full of magic collected over many years, these are about the only workers that I've since kept to earn a career with.
