:)

If you are referring to reproducing David Copperfield's "Flying" then you probably aren't going to get much help here.

Hello Michael,
You have put down a very open question.
If you cannot precise what illusion you want to perform,
then nobody can/will answer your question.
There are many different ways of suspension/levitation.
If you can write down (or give a link to You Tube) to
what your intentions are, then it is possible that
you become the right answers.
If you are serious you can P.M. me.

I would not recommend attempting to buy fly lines and create your own fly rig with no prior experience. Many theatres will not even let you rig it up without complying to regulations. Their rigger will take one look at it and turn it down. It all comes down to every detail (and they WILL check it) right down to which bolts are used and where. It's sounds like you're attempting to take something as complicated, highly regulated and incredibly dangerous as building a fly system into your own hands. There is a lot involved around weight, structure, safety features and the general physics of these things.

My recommendation is to call Foy or ZFX and bring them in to consult and help you to develop your fly system. They will help to ensure that it meets all regulatory standards, looks and moves perfectly.

I have worked with ZFX and they are FANTASTIC! (Tell them I sent you)

- Chris.

Thank you chris,

I will do that and sorry guys that I don't want say what kind of idea I have.

thanks a lot.

I don't know that its so complicated to become a answer for a rope.

we have all the other things.. we have proved the system on the stage and it works fantastic.

The original question has been answered and pertained to flying effects outside of the US. Since these things come up in searches later, however, here's an additional note to performers wanting to do something like this in the US:

Where will the show be taped? A lot of factors will depend on the venue. Most TV studios don't have a fly loft like theatres do and their lighting grids aren't usually tested for active weight. What that means is that a support rated to hold 200 lbs of dead (non-moving) weight (like a lighting instrument) would have to be rated 5x that (1000 lbs) for a 200 lb person who would be considered active weight. (By the way, this also goes for platfiorms).

Then there are union issues involved (you will have to hire 2+ fly men with proper training and certificates), OSHA regulations and inspections, insurance bonds, etc. Now factor in your load in time because TV studios are often shared and sets rolled out for tapings. I highly recommend that anyone in the US reading this go back and re-read Chris' reply above.

All entertainers can benefit from some help from an experienced stage director. How about you?

Michael_Late, you are not looking for rope, so try using the word, wire.

If you do a search on Google with the terms, theater flying, you should find at least 2 companies that sell their services to theaters.

They do not sell product, only their services and total equipment for theater show.

Do you want to do a theatrical flying?, then go to Foy or ZFX, as mentioned before.
If you want to perform a magical (invisible) flying then you need to go to John Gaughan as he is the exclusive builder and has the patent to this version.
Be carefull about exposure in this area of the café!

Hello guys,

I don't unterstand this discussion here.

I only ask for the rope. not for a secret, not for something else.

we developed our own illusion.

I say I again.. I don't want copy somebody.. I have my own ideas and my own brain.. don't worry.

You say you are in Austria (so I presume you speak Austrian German?).

Your best bet is to contact Peter Marvey in Switzerland. He has a number of different systems and is the European expert on flying.

The guys are just trying to help here Mike. As mentioned before, it is not a rope, it's a WIRE. A search for "rope" will turn up empty. You need a "fly wire" or "fly line".
