Try Killer Key, by Jay Sankey. Or even a good invisible deck routine.

Oh! And how could I ever forget? I've been carrying "Half Gone" by Barry Taylor around for a couple years. No skill, high impact amazement that you can perform over and over all day. Available in half dollar and quarter. Good stuff!

What is the detailed definition of a perfect street trick, besides the discription of Alex118 in his first post?

For me the X trick with a gimmicked deck is my standard opener and then I swap in a normal deck and do various card tricks. The X trick is ideal as they are involved but don't need to buy in with a lot of actions etc. It is especially good for a cynical group where their immediate response is no they don't want any magic thanks but where one says oh go on then show us one! After thst they all want one and keep double checking to see if X is back or not.

I suggest taking the time to actually learn something with a skill.. some slights... even a simple ambitious card routine. this will always get them & you can even use their cards. as for Loops... it is very good.. however, lighting can be an issue, and they are not cheap. If you have an iPhone or Android phone, check out "iCard" by Daniel Garcia. It's super easy to do and gets great reactions and is a visual piece of eye candy to boot.

I'm amazed at how amazed people are with a simple DT trick (irks me every time (in a bemused kinda way) that after I do some of my complex coin or card routines, the thing they want to see again is the silk !) Still, TT is becoming common in kid's magic kits, which I think is a shame. Most kids won't go on to develop a proper interest and it's revealing the trick unnecessarily. (I bought my daughter a small magic set (because she wanted the magic hat it advertised) and lo, a TT came with it! (not too bad quality either). In recent times, I tend to carry a TT, DT (each with a silk), a small mentalism deck I made, a few coins (in case spectator doesn't have any), a normal deck (with a few rubber bands wrapped around it) and, if there are enough pockets, a rope. Out of these the one I use every time is the TT. |

I think you are absolutely correct Daeld!
Follow the money trail! Packagers of kids kits are, of course, interested in $$$. A TT is CHEAP and 'looks good' as a "real" magician's secret!!! There have been m*g*c shops over here with glass fishbowls on the counter filled with TTs. In the last few years on the road, I had many kids come up and ask me if I had a plastic th**b!!! I dropped the old (1970s) from the regular act. It was a marvelous piece of business, but I had no choice. As you've mentioned, very few kids have more than a shallow interest, so it becomes an exposure

Hi everybody,
I would say, if you use the TT with another object to make something appear or vanish, people won't think about it. The simple fact of using a borrowed bill to make a silk appear from it will wow them. I can't remember where I've read this, I think it was in Silly Billy's Kids Magic book "Serisously Silly", where he states that if you simply use a white or purple silk, as long as it isn't red, you will even wow kids with the TT business. Why ? Because they have a red silk with a TT in their magic box at home, but don't know the purple or white silk vanish... Going back on topic, I use the Professor's Nightmare to gain a crowed. If I don't use an effect to pull a crowd together, I just start talking loud around me, as in the old vaudeville street acts : "Ladies & Gentlemen, come closer ! Approach, approach !..." And as soon as I have a few people I start my act. It works for me. Oliver. |
