I just received this from Hocus Pocus as well - thanks for the heads up regarding the sale price! Unfortunately, it appears that my p***s have a problem on the back - in the middle column. I have called HP and they are looking into it, but I thought I would ask here and see if maybe I'm just stupid! I've read through the procedure several times - although I was already familiar with the methodology - but I can't figure out what I may be missing.
Thanks, Ryan |

Just received my copy the other day from Penguin. Having a few spectators not understanding why they can't pick "any" word on the page. I maintain that "in order to get a clear mental image I need a more significant word (bigger) .. one that stands out". They tend to say things like "well this one stands out and is significant to me". Anybody have any other ways to articulate this for audience management or am I just getting a few tough spectators? I've been doing the magazine test by Osterlind (Mind Mysteries 1) and have been having great success. I see crazy potential with Tru Test once I work out these few kinks!

I suppose then that it wouldn't be outlandish for people to view the description as a tad misleading.
Example: "The TRU TEST is the cleanest test ever created. Why? Because they get to look at a page FULL OF WORDS and think of ANY word. Then you tell them!" don't get me wrong. I love the effect and its super workable. But the "you can pick any word on the page" part sold me more than anything and unfortunately it wasn't true. I'll use it still once I learn how to avoid obstacles Ive encountered in my previous post. |

Just received. Very excited to try this out.
Mag1cian, are you using the ripped page presentation? The constant eliminating of torn/discarded sections should really underscore that "any word" could've been chosen. This way however you get the benefit of the spectator not being able to study the entire page. Regarding the word length, don't ask, just tell them - pick a word... Make it a good one, not "the, of, and" - those are too boring... Something along those lines... Make it engaging and they should be excited to play along... It should feel natural. Of course I hope you are not exclusively doing this for friends and family, the type that give us all a hard time! Good luck! |

My Tru Test performance was at a work party function for a few co workers and my boss. I did say "pick a significant word .. something that stands out from the rest .. nothing boring". Of course they pick a 5 letter word and mutter "Well, this one stand out to me .. I want this one .. you said any word right"? He just wanted to see if I could in fact reveal any word which I indeed can not. Like I said .. probably just a rare, tough spectator. I love the effect, my point is just that the ad should've stated "the spectator can pick "almost" any word. I'd have nothing to say here then. But even after the misleading ad I still enjoy the effect and will get some mileage out of it for sure .. its just adding to my phobia of reading trick ad's/demos. |

I think its your script that needs changing "pick a significant word... something that stands out from the rest..nothing boring'' is different from " Choose a really big word... one with lots of letters...challenge me''. It is important to emphasise a really long letter word, but justify it by making it seem more difficult or challenging to choose a long word.

Don't call it big, say it very casually and not stressing. Call it as has been suggested an interesting word, if you don't make a big deal about it than its not a big deal.

I usually flow very well with my patter and have used interesting, significant, etc. in a very non nonchalant manner and I still got the "Well this is the one significant and interesting to me .. whats interesting to you may not be interesting to me" .. like I said .. think I just had a few tough spec's in that particular parlour setting. That being said, I improvised and got out of the situation clean. I just don't want to have to deal with it again as it was nerve racking. Jeff |

Hey Jeff that sucks, I totally know where you're coming from...
Lemme ask - you said this was work/boss type of crowd right? Sometimes they are the same as the family crowd - geared to "figure you out" rather than enjoy the performance. I myself try really hard to always frame my performances as mutually beneficial, interesting experiments that depend on us all working together...My question is, would you have guessed this person would act this way? Meaning, are they the type of person whom you could've predicted would try to be difficult for no reason? We've ALL run into those types. Just the other day I was doing a dollar bill serial divination and the spectator asked last minute to switch bills with another person after I had already p####d the necessary info. Never happend before. I simply asked him to focus on the last digit and used iForce to get it right. (simpler conclusion but at least something happened). In other words I improvised like you did. Sounds like you handled it well. I would always try gearing your stuff towards spectators you at least *think* will work with you. |

I did a few effects before TRU TEST (I think I did a Sweet N Low, psypher and a CHOP (Craig Petty) Routine). Thus, I think they were getting tired of being fried. One lady was almost in tears. So I think they decided to start attempting to disprove my powers. In the end you're right. My performing style has to gear towards the audience and I working in sync as unit or a team so that its "mutually beneficial". Instead of .. "Im Mr. Magic .. watch what I can do to your brain". Throughout my career Ive learned that performing is a life long lesson. I have to treat it as a "hey have you ever pondered about those psychic readers .. Im not sure if that power exists or not but lets try a little experiment together to see what results we get. With your help we will either prove or disprove this". They're involved and feel like they have a positive, active role in the effect. |

Just got it in and Read a little of it but ill be honest I was hoping for something different, not sure what so I guess I'm at fault for that. But If youve seen my videos I have a sketchy crowd at work.. Not sure if the Work is worth the effect.. By work I mean the P#@$ work...

Not sure if it was brought up... but I personally had an issue with the "think of an animal that starts with the first letter" pumping method. IF they happen to pick jellyfish or kangaroo for J or K, and it is revealed, the trick is over before it's supposed to be! If you have this, you know what I mean. I'd be sure to manage them correctly when giving them that task NOT to reveal anything about their object or freely thought of/picked word... Then you can safely do the generic 4-legged animal gag and move forward. R

Rich, I'd pass on the "Think of an animal that begins with the first letter" ploy. If you have M.O.A.B. then you know there are much better strategies available. Either way, Tru Test is very good. Ripping the page into many pieces as described by Nathan plays huge.

I love book tests.
There is no "best" book test. There is just the one YOU like the best. Or the one that fits your needs the best........Or the one that the audience likes the best. But it's always different for every person and every audience. I collect them. I own every freaking one. MY favorite book test (using actual books) is the one that I created. But I'm biased it's called "the worlds coolest book test" and you can read all about it here: https://kranzomagic.myshopify.com/collec......est-ever If I'm giving a formal performance where it makes sense to have a bunch of books laying around that's my favorite one. Hands-down!!!!!! The one I use the most is the tru test. https://kranzomagic.myshopify.com/produc......all-time Why? For a couple reasons. But the main one is it uses a magazine (not a book) and no matter where I travel to....I always have a magazine with me because I like to read. So I'm always ready to perform this. And it just so happens that a trick that also fits in my backpack just happens to be the trick that I close my standup show with!!!!! But here's the really good news. You can get it free this week when you purchase my book test. That's right. Just purchased my book test here and I'll mail you the "tru test" absolutely free!!!! https://kranzomagic.myshopify.com/collec......est-ever You'll get the two SPECIALLY printed softcover books. +40 gimmicks to perform my "tru test" magazine test. https://kranzomagic.myshopify.com/produc......all-time
