I would like to suggest that you reconsider your policy on email addresses.
Just like there is a growing discontent with cell phone contracts, the same discontent is growing with being locked into an internet provider. I, like everyone I know, have broadband service, get locked into a 2 year contract for the best deal and will switch out at the end of it. I am not interested in bouncing around with different email addresses and no one I know is interested in having to update it. Most everyone I know has switched to gmail so they will have one address until telepathy becomes a reality. I believe the original intent of this policy is no longer valid and it deserves an open discussion. |

No - I have not had any response - this seems to be a subject they prefer to ignore - the world is not the same as it was when this policy came into effect - most people I know have switched to a generic email because they are sick and tired of being held hostage by these internet carriers.

Agreed. I had forgotten I used my old work email and just had to update to my new work email ... Yahoo, Gmail or hotmail should be allowed.

Not to sound rude, but you obviously have no clue as what our intent was when we made our policy regarding what type of email addresses we accept. If you did, you wouldn't have posted such a presumptuous statement. First, the reason we do not normally accept free email addresses (e.g, Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, etc) is not because we think folks should stay with their internet provider forever (I would never suggest such a thing). The polciy was made because of the constant problem with internet trolls who come here to cause problems. When they do, they are banned. By accepting free internet addresses the trolls need only spend a couple minutes signing-up for another free email address and like magic they suddenly have a different email under another fake name and they are back here again. It doesn't totally stop all the morons and idiots, but it really does help. So yes, that rule is still extremely valid. Second, no policy that I make on this website is subject to so-called open discussion. This is not a coporation and the members here are not stock holders. This is a private website and you are my guests (i.e, my way or the highway). I have a few simple rules and I ask everyone to follow them. The rules that are in place are there for good reason and are not likely to change anytime soon. I do not force people to come here. When they join and agree to follow our rules and policies - they do so of their own free will - simple as that. Now, when approached politely and with good explanation I have been known to make exceptions to the email address rule - one need only send me a private message or email me at: stevebrooks@themagiccafe.com I hope this helps to clear-up any type of misunderstanding.
