Hmm...I'm responding on my iPad and haven't had any issues with purposeful misspelling. Did I spell purposeful right?

Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley. "...as we reason and love, we are able to hope. And hope enables us to resist those things that would enslave us." |

What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

All these language pet peeves got me to thinking: my greatest pet peeve on Internet forums is the assertion that being educated in something doesn't mean anything. Sure, we only pretend to be who we really are. But that doesn't negate the fact that even if someone accepts that one of us is, say, an world-class pole vaulter that a typical discussion might include something along to the lines of: "...the Internet is a democracy and I have a right to my opinion and even if I've never even held a pole in my hand I have as much a right to talk about how one ought to pole vault as any other member of this Internet forum, and your expertise means nothing!"
Happens all the time here at the Café. All the time. The vintage porn forum I belong to is much more appreciative toward the true experts. (Of whom I am not one, in case anyone was wondering.) |

I've posted this before, but it seems to really fit in this thread:
http://aschmann.net/AmEng/ I use it in my phonetics class. (And yes, I emailed him for permission first.) I think it's wonderful. |
