I have noticed many people ask for info regarding value of an item and often are not replied to. Is there an "expert" in the magic community that would be willing to post periodically or be given their own forum to specialize in this? It could help in pricing items for sale as well as educate us on what we have.

Wow,
The value of an item falls into ranges and some items are bought for various reasons. An item can be genuine or a rip off and until it is examined by an expert, no one really knows for sure. Items on the Magic Auction are selling pretty close to their actual value. Items on eBay may sometimes be a steal, and at other times people pay more than they would if they bought it from a magic dealer. If it is an item you want, do an internet search on it. You might get a decent insight on it's value. Then if I really want to know something real value, I turn to four friends who have been in the businees a long time: Marty Martini (cafe member & dealer), Bob Little (Local Magic Dealer), Denny Hanney (Magic Dealer) or Ron Geoffries (Magician). Now with magi dealers like Denny Hanney, Marty Martini, & Bob Little, I am a loyal customer, and I value their opinion. Denny Haney has save me lots of money from buying things that I wasn't aware they were rip-offs. If I really want a second opinion, I would ask someone like Chance Wolf, or the Dean. Some of the magic dealers who advertise on the Café opinions are valueable like Peters, or Hocus-Pocus. Since this is a difficult area, no one person can know it all. It would be nice to have an "Antique Road-Show" for magic items, but there isn't a large market for this thing.

Jay Marshall is my favorite expert, but this forum isn't his cup of tea.
