Dear all:
Would like to hear from you all who have used the MC Demonstration Table from Mikame for performance of C & B. 2 links are provided below: http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S11249 http://mikamecraft.ocnk.net/product/32 (shows picture of the shelf) Appreciate if you could clarify the following: a) How do you feel about the use of this table for performing C & B? a) Do you find it problematic without the rim? i.e. without the rim, how do you address the problem of ball falling out when you perform C & B? b) Do you use a stand from Mikame? If yes, is it the one as per link below? Does this table stand come with 4 or 3 legs? http://mikamecraft.ocnk.net/product/93 c) As for the storage shelf, under the table, wouldn't it be great for final load for C & B? If yes, may I know if you use any cloth to cover the storage shelf so that no spectator behind you will be able to see the final load in the shelf? d) Apart from C & B, what other routine do you use this table for? e) I am looking for a table and a stand for performing C & B. Would you recommend me to use MC Demonstration Table and the Mikame table stand? Is there any other table or stand that is better? If yes, kindly provide the source where they can be purchased. Would appreciate your feedback on the above. Thank you |

There's another version of the Mikame demonstration table available through Penquin as well that according to the description has the same features: http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S11688 but is a couple hundred dollars less.
Here's another option for a stand, but you would have to find or have a flange fabricated for it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004YGQ......8H8GAAWA This is really a "dressmaker" base that you can see in Polo stores and many others. However, you can get two for less than the price of one Mikame stand. I have truly innocent clear acrylic table tops on my stands like this. From there I can put a cloth cover with s servante or use it as the base for one of three table tops I have: Mikame Hopping Table, Dean Dill production pad, or Owen cups and balls table top. I really wanted one of the Mikame demo tables before I came up with my combination, but decided I didn't want the so obvious loading area that sooner or later people would see and put two and two together. I am, however, strictly an amateur so I have to be cautious.

That base shown in the Penguin ad is, to my way of thinking, really ugly. I know a lot of guys use the Eureka base, but it doesn't look nice. It looks like a combination of Erector set and gas pipe. If you are going to get one of those Mikame tops, get the matching wooden legs or stand to go with it.
Most magicians do not think about what their tables look like. Imagine that you set your table up as a piece of furniture in your living room. Would you have one of these gas pipe and caster abominations? Plated pipe doesn't have to be ugly. I use a 1939 model P&L base with a draped table top. But I could work from a flat piece of plywood. Learn how to work without getting things from behind the top. Read the thread in the secret sessions about Final Load Logic.

Thank you for the feedback everyone.
Was wondering if the MC Demonstration Table from Mikame comes with the built in flange, coz it is not mentioned in the link below: http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S11249 Any idea for those who are in the know/own a unit of the table? |

If you know what YOU need in a table then go to a furniture maker and have them make it. Yes it may be a touch more expensive but you will get EXACTLY what YOU want...

That's a beautiful table Bri! I remember you sharing it before and your builder did a great job.
Where you're going to perform and the conditions of the performance are key. A table like Bri's is perfect for the home. I think my tables I mentioned above are perfect for the "magic parlor" in my KC house because it's set up like a bar. I have a vintage P&L dragon table here in Miami Beach that I love and it is perfect for here. If I were going to go on the road with a table, I think I'd take the route in Tom Stone's book "Vortex" and use a folding music keyboard stand, put Bill's plywood on top and cover it with a cloth. When I was looking at the demonstration table, it was advice from Bri about it not having a lip and the thread in secret sessions Bill started and mentioned above that convinced me I didn't want to go that route. Being dependent on a hidden area in a table is a bit like needing training wheels on a bicycle. That said, the Mikame option isn't wrong, because everyone has their own opinion about what looks good and what they want in a table.

Thanks Dale. Mk2 (in production but probably not going to be finished that soon!) Is actually going to be almost identical but pack down small. It'll have a couple of tricks up its sleeve too...

Hi all: In addition, I was wondering if there is any cups and balls table maker that you are aware off that do ship international, has a website, and make reasonable good quality table for C & B (with tray compartment/servante and a railing/lip to prevent balls from dropping off the table) Would really appreciate your feedback. Thank you in advance! |

I use a busking style table that I got from the following link: http://www.theambitiouscard.com. For the stand, I use a wooden restaurant tray stand that I got from a restaurant supply store for less than $20. Tabman also makes some nice tables, and I think RNT2 has a nice performance table. But, as alluded to earlier, a lot of it is personal preference.
