Roy Keuppers offers two different versions of the Hopping Half trick. Expanded shell and shaved.

What advantages does the shaved version offer (if any)?

If I had to guess. I would say the shaved version would be in an unexpanded shell type. verses the expanded shell. just a guess though.

Im not sure I understand how the shaved version would have fewer coins? It still uses a shell, it is just not expanded.

The number of coins/she**s is the same.
A HH set with shaved remilled silver coin also work as a Sun/Moon set. The shaved silver coin fit into the same coppershe*l as the C/S insert.

The main difference is that you can do several routines with a set with shaved silver coin.

As an example, you can do SAMOYA with a set with shaved silver coin, and/or Roger Clause's > Solei at Luna

Move this thread to secret sessions, this forum is the wrong place to talk about this stuff.
Then I'll explain the difference between the sets. otherwise no more talk about secrets.
