Six cards are placed face down on the table. The spectator is handed a 'gold' coin from a sunken treasure. The spectator is instructed to place the coin on the back of any card, and try to find the Pirates treasure. ( No Force ) The five remaining cards are turned face up,showing all to have a skull and crossbones printed on their faces. The selected card with the 'gold' coin is turned face up. On it is printed the Pirates Treasure Chest ! The spectator has found the Pirates Treasure ! The spectator may keep the 'gold' coin as a souvenir. Resets in seconds, No force, Great for adults as well as children. Complete with custom printed cards, 'Gold' Coin, Plastic Wallet, And easy to follow instructions.
Available from bobsolarimagic.com This is a cute effect that comes complete with the custom cards (6) a plastic packet wallet, a plastic gold coin and the 2 page instructions that will have you up and running within minutes of opening the package. Like other items from bobsolarimagic, it is high on entertainment and very easy to execute. There is no force involved, the coin can be placed onto any card by the spectator. This will appeal to a beginner as well as a worker. It is instantly repeatable and instantly reset. It would be good for a children's entertainer or a close up worker. As noted in the instructions, the gold coin can be given out as a souvenir at the end as they are easily obtainable from a party type store. For a children's performer, this is a good idea and will cost no more than pennies to give away. You could easily replace the plastic gold coin with chocolate dollar coins for a change which is also inexpensive to do. For those not working this for children, then a real gold coin or perhaps an antique type of coin will add nicely to this theme, The tile is pirates booty and you can easily weave a simple story line around this plot. The cards look nice, the pirates chest is a colorful gold and the skull and crossbones is black. If you are looking to add a new effect or just a different close up effect other than the pick a card types, then give this new one from bobsolarimagic.com a try. |

Fundamentally the same as "Mickey Finn" by Aldo Colombini. Like the pirate theme, though.

Have to agree 100%. While there is nothing "new" here in terms of moves, Bob has crafted a presentation that allows for maximum entertainment for kids and adults.
If you are a restaurant worker, this trick is gold (pun not intended.) It packs flat (good for pocket management), it is easy to do (allowing you to focus on presentation), it has a gift for the spectator at the end (good for marketing youself) and it is easy for kids to follow. I am a big fan of Bob's stuff (easy to do, worker material.) Check out http://www.bobsolarimagic.com/shop/ to buy David Corsaro

Sounds like a fun effect, I love Solari effects in general, and they are easy to do, easy to follow, so I jumped in on this and ordered it.
Rizzo, Thanks for bringing it to our attention. Dave |

Can you keep all 5 other cards on the table while turning around or do you have to take those 5 cards into your hand to "count" them while showing the faces?!

You have to deal the remaining, unselected cards onto the the table while showing the faces.

Clearly, there are two endings possible. The one on the video is, of course, is the one hoped for. The other can be pretty easily dealt with, though.
The best thing on the video is the truly "so bad its good" joke Bob uses at the end!
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Is Mickey Finn anything like Andy Nyman's Dice Man?

The video is funny and you could present it just like Bob does with an eye patch and a hook. Here is a link to the effect. Then hit the video link and watch his funny video.

I just got a chance to play with this and show it to a few people, and it went well. The pirate theme makes it more fun so setting it up with the gold coin and trying to find the treasure chest all made sense. Rizzo's idea of using a chocolate coin is super, never thought of that. Although buying a whole bunch of cheap plastic gold coins works too. I agree with the others that the trick itself is nothing new, but Bob's presentation and theme really give this effect new life and ways of playing it up.
Depending on the presentation, "missing" the treasure chest and finding only the skull and crossbones is equally impressive - as although they don't technically find the treasure, they still managed to impossibly miss all the treasure and "beat the odds" of choosing the odd card. The good thing is that as the performer, you can know ahead of time what they chose, and try to sway them to change their mind accordingly as part of the presentation. All in all, great trick and cool props. Add your own pirate's hat, parrot, hook and eyepatch, and you've got a full blown theme! "AARRRRRrrrrr!" |
