I would have to check on the details, but as I recall he got a certain portion of his losses “kicked back” to him by the casinos and that gave him a mathematical edge over the house. It wasn’t just because he was lucky. Good example of "beating" the casinos but not "cheating" the casinos. Time permitting I’ll go back to my notes on this and give more detail. |

That is my recollection as well, Cagliostro - like your past, there is "beating" the casinos legally, through the many advantages that they used to offer, and some that they still do, albeit unwittingly today, but the advantage-play profits differ greatly from the monies taken by cheating the casinos that you were wrongfully accused of in a different thread in this forum.
You and I, my old friend, still remember the days before the general public was even aware that computers existed - the days when brilliant, handy, clever, and enterprising young men with big brass ones (sorry gender-neutral crowd - there were no females directly involved in the creation or use of those devices)raked in tons of cash by raising and lowering their toes within the tight confines of their Frye boots to activate the first generations of blackjack card-counting computers, in the very profitable days before the laws were enacted to criminalize the use of such devices. Our friends, of course, ditched their toe-switches when the laws forbade their use, and delved into other effective methods of LEGALLY draining the table floats by using their intelligence; observational skills; acting ability; and big brass ones to get the money. As the song goes, "Those were the days, my friend..." Bret

Comp hustlers
There are players, known as comp hustlers who attempt to maximize the amount of comps that they receive, as well as minimize their expected losses in gambling to receive those comps.[4][5] Comp hustlers play games with a low house advantage, such as blackjack or video poker. Comp hustlers may use tactics such as placing large bets when a pit boss is checking their bet size to rate them for comps, and then moving to a smaller bet size when the boss is not watching. They may also take frequent breaks from playing, play at full tables to be dealt fewer hands per hour, and play more slowly.[4] Comp hustling is a type of advantage gambling. If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.
