One in the pocket two in the hand is a nice effect which can be done anywhere with or without a table and can be done with different objects.
A problem that can rise when using coins is the noise factor when putting two coins as one in the pocket ie the jingle of the coins,i know you can put something in the pocket to soften the noise and that background noise can also help, however if its truly on the spot your not likely to have something in your pocket to kill the noise. Do you think it would ruin the effect if for the last phase you placed two coins in the pocket and one in the hand and then show the coin in the hand vanished instead of the other way around ie two in the hand one in the pocket and the two coins vanishing which is the norm ? |

How will anyone know that's there isn't something in your pocket that makes noise?
If it bothers you then have a few extra coins in the pocket that you can shake each time. I think the effect would be weaker if you put two coins in the pocket. |

Pete Biro once said elsewhere on the Café a few years ago when this very same question was asked by another poster. "Oh for the want of a handkerchief" May not be the exact wordage but it's close enough.
Really this type of thinking is a magician thinking too much. Unless you show your pocket to be empty at the start of the effect or give the spectators reason to believe it's empty, The sound isn't going to matter. If they hear a clink. They aren't going to say "Ahh his pocket is supposed to be empty and that one coin just hit something so now I know how it works" |

I have tried it stand up with sponge balls in a hat. It worked out pretty well. The hat just had to be above the spectators line of eye sight.
