Just found some info out there but the question I meant to ask (to be clear) was if there were any `tricky ` plates&sticks that does the job easier (easy to do in a few minutes). that's what I have seen with the `magic `eye but I may be mistaken...

Spinning plates is not so much juggling but manipulation and therefore still a skill jugglers use
spinning plates is seen as the easiest form of juggling and the plates used now are plastic mostly and have a form that makes it very easy if your jsut putting the on the stick and spinning it the skill is to have the plate hang on the stick and spin it very fast and then stop so the plate is spinning ten you can throw the plate and catch it and other tricks most are about 10 bucks with a stick but as far as having a stand to hold 8 bring up some kids for your audience I am not sure why but they love it |

All you need is a spinning plate, a sharp stick, several hours, and you can easily master this simple skill with either hand. Just remember that you will get lift off only when the stick is moving faster that the plate.

With platic plates (designed to spin on a stick) it is definetly a lot easier then with china plates (designed to eat from).

Oh by the way I suddenly remember that one time at a workshop at the dutch juggling convention a chinees women gave a workshops. And she actually had plates to witch the sticks were connected. The sticks could move but not get lose - Or in other words: the plate was unable to drop from the stick.
It certainly didn't require lot of skill. Also it certainly felt a bit like cheating. However I never saw those plates before and never saw them after. So no idea where you can get them. |

Ty very much all for the responses.
Esther, guess you are reffering to what I have seen The plates are unable to drop.. Guess I will have to have that stand made up if its not readily available, should not be hard tough... |

You mean to tell me that you don't have an hour to learn a simple skill that will make you money? With a work ethic like that you are your own worst enemy.

I just wanted to mention that there are also lots of people out there that do this for real with real china plates that do really fall off. It is not incredibly hard to learn but it is much harder than the plastic plates and takes a bit more finesse.
You can't buy a rig for this or I haven't seen one for sale any way, you will have to design and build one for yourself if you are interested. |

Yaah Al, I used to juggle a bit and did a plate spin on a mouthstick. All gaffed, made in an hour and took no skill.

I would never want to disagree with you. I taught myself to do it with both hands in on a Saturday morning.

I'm with Al on this one, not the hardest skill to learn. But can be fun using very long sticks, real plates, or having a bunch of kids and run back and forth keeping the kids plate spinning. I stole a plate off a friend's stick using an arrow once. (renfair)
the rig to hold the plates should not be that hard to make, just a stand with some holes in it.

OMG
You want a stand to put spinning plates on. Now that's a horse of a different color. Buy a do it your self saw horse and make it extra long. I thought he wanted a thingy that held the plate in place without spinning it.

Al, I think he wants both
First post asks for a rig Second post asks for "ticky" plates and sticks. |

Tricked plates can't be put in a stand as they are like a puppet and must continue to move to look real. Either learn it for real and use a stand or make a fake version for the hand. You can have several in each hand at one time but the second you stop moving it is obviously fake.

I saw a non-skill version of this.
You'll need: Some long flexible poles Some paper plates Some sticky tape A strobe light Basically stick the plates to to sticks and then make the stick sway. Under strobe lighting it looks like the plates are spinning. Quite a good illusion.
