As Halloween approaches I'm blowing the dust off this board and contemplating its use once again. Though to be honest, its the contemplating part that's being repeated, not the actual use.
Bought around the beginning of last year, I thought it was a very clever (and kinda freaky) effect. But practical? Not really. Not that I have found it to be anyway. My biggest complaint being trying to find the right table (you know what I mean). What has your experience been with this effect/board? Any tips for easier 'handling' (hee hee)? Jo |

Not familiar with this one, went to the store and read the effect description, says no special table needed, are they fibbing or just stretching truth a bit? Sounds intriguing, but not sure about the cost, (especially if you say it is not that practical) or are you talking for a large group and fast paced action?
Again, not being sure of the item, could the image change to a hanged man, or become dis-membered? If so then it might play for a situation when folks place their hands and the "figure" changes to a hanged man, no need to really spell things if time is a factor.... just a thought from someone who does not know any better about this item!

I don't know that much about it either, but it sounds fun!

Unfortunately I can't tip the workings here (obviously), but let me say the following....
The Spectral Ouiji Board is a 'wafer-thin' board and looks like a normal Ouiji Board in all aspects. (Your spectators can examine it and find nothing peculiar). Everyone sits down around the table as in a normal seance (but then again, which seance is EVER normal?), and whenevr you want, a shadow begins to form 'inside'/on the board. No electronics of any kind. The shadow visibly becomes denser and then can be made to move around the board and so spell out answers to any questions the sitters may have. This looks really freaky. And the method is very very clever. I have not tried it in performance yet as I never seem to find a 'good-enough' table. The gimmick that makes it all work is influenced by the construction and size of the table. So its not something that can 'just be brought out' at any old dinner party. Kaytracy, the image can't be changed to anything but a shadow moving across the board, spelling out any word as the shadow spreads across the relevant letters, and then visibly vanishing (slow or fast) as it seems to fade away. It looks like the real thing would look. The gimmick is totally undetectable, controlled by either you or an accomplace, while holding hands with everyone else around the table as in a real seance situation. You could even be away from the table, in another room, another town, blah blah. The action can either fast-paced or slow and tense, and is probably suited to smaller audiences, that can be seated around the table, with some standing if you like. Jo |

Ah! so the catalog description is a little stretched then, as it says no special tables are needed, etc. This is good to know, though still it is an intriguing adea, one I may have to look into for playing with (I am not above taking things apart and re-working them to get what I want, just look in my "play room" at the messes I make!
I may have to look at getting one and giving it a try!

Hocus Pocus has it for $100. Here's their web page:
http://www.hocus-pocus.com/magicshop/ I haven't seen the actual product, but after watching the demo (found at Hocus Pocus) I have an idea about how it works. All I can say is watch the demo and come to your own conclusions. The method I guess would definitely have table issues. Due to visibility issues, I don't think this would be effective as a seance effect for other than the sitters directly around the board. I also think candle light might effect the visibility of this effect. Dave |

Perhaps a higher quality/bigger gimmick might help. s |

I have it... I think it is garbage. I have never been able to find a place to use it. Have you used it yet? Right now mine just sits in my junk drawer of magic tricks.

Marky, same here except that you must admit it could be a very good effect under the right conditions. It is a very clever idea.
There MUST be a way! |

...I do not know how it works but I think I am rather close...so why not combine it with a "third hand" and the board is held between the two hands?
Just a fast idea. P |

A friend of mine had it and wound up returning it to the shop he bought it from. My thoughts:
1. The thing looks very cheaply made. Not something you really want to bring out and show. It's a board with white lettering. 2. The gimmick requires sitting at a table and unless you are thin, very nimble or are some sort of yoga master, you won't be able to work it. 3. Even if you can work it, due to the nature of the materials that make up the method, the "spectral" that moves from letter to letter is not that accurate, 4. The board is green, the spectre is black...now imagine this in a low light setting. There you have it. Two thumbs down. EVILDAN.

I was considering purchasing this item, but after seeing the video and reading the comments here I have reconsider. To bad, because the concept is good. However the actual product appears to close to mental "magic". If the style and method could be improved, then this would be very effective.
